This is the leader who told his subjects to cry when he demanded it. I think a swipe by Ember at those who would lead the entire species into a war they would lose is not only not comparable, but also actually correct. Only a “boulderhead” would want to fight or antagonize ponies.

She has literally not said anything about what she would or would not do as dragon lord when it comes to ponies.  
She may not be inclined to start anything now, but before she teamed up with Spike and met Rarity and Twilight, there was no reason to believe she was any more qualified than the other candidates.
