Further explorations on Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry’s relationship: though the Princess of Friendship can be pretty assertive as well, it’s usually her guard who takes the initiative and he was almost always the first to take the new steps in their relationship. He’s got a spicy and sometimes hot-blooded temperament, but the love he feels for his wife is able to calm him in every situation. He takes his job extremely seriously but would do anything to save his wife and children, even if it meant breaking the rules. Twilight, on the contrary, took longer to become more secure and resolute. Their relationship is very passionate, especially at the beginning of their love, and Flash loves it when Twilight acts all timid and innocent because he knows she isn’t like that at all.
I’ve shipped Sunburst x Starlight Glimmer since the Season 6 premiere and I liked that couple a lot, seen as they’re childhood friends and all… But then there was that episode focusing on the new friendship between Trixie and Starlight and, well, that ship took my heart. I didn’t like SunGlimmer (Starburst?) any less, but I was really undecided between the two pairings and I really didn’t know which to choose and put in my AU.
Then (I honestly don’t know why) a little thought crept into my mind: Why not ship both? It’s something I’ve done before (for example, in my AU SoarinDash and GildaDash do exist, though in the past, and are no longer “official”, since AppleDash is the main pairing), however this time I didn’t feel like making either Trixie or Sunburst one of Starlight’s old flames or something.
It was only when I randomly searched a particular topic on internet that I had the best idea - one that would make me able to ship both of them, at the same time. In the end, I decided to make the three of them polyamorous, this means that Starlight Glimmer, Sunburst and Trixie are all engaged in a relationship with one another. I found it a very fascinating idea, but I haven’t elaborated their romance quite yet. Sunburst had a foal only with Starlight (as for now), the colt is Lucent Starlight. I also plan on designing a child for him and Trixie, but we’ll see.
Happy with the decision described above, I played some more with the concept of polyamory and ended up doing the same with my favourite character’s little sister: I’d always shipped Apple Bloom with Pipsqueak (without really thinking about their dynamics, story and all, though), but then the episode introducing Tender Taps made me reconsider my choice. I’d already created a next generation foal for the PipBloom couple and I didn’t want to remove him, so I opted for shipping Apple Bloom, Pipsqueak and Tender Taps as a polyamorous trio. I’ve thought a lot more about their relationship than I’ve done with Startrixburst (I know, it’s painful, but the whole names are too long XD), and I could come up with a few headcanons.
As they grew up, Apple Bloom got closer and closer to both Tender Taps and Pipsqueak: the former enjoyed showing her his moves and sometimes dancing with her, and the latter was fond of her spirit of adventure and curiosity. While Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle had their romantic issues (well, mostly Scoots, but anyway), Apple Bloom didn’t seem too interested in beginning a relationship. Her friendship with the two colts grew stronger and stronger until the three were almost inseparable and did all sorts of things together, from playing stupid jokes and doing various other screw-ups, to spending hours telling one another about what worried them or simply star-gazing.
The filly soon developed deeper feelings for both Tender Taps and Pipsqueak, and after a long internal fight, she concluded that talking to them about it was the better option. The young stallions were utterly surprised and dind’t know how to react: on one side, each of them realized their crush had declared her love to them, but on the other, none of them would have her for himself. They weren’t angry at each other and they weren’t sad, either; they simply had no idea on what would happen next. The two colts accepted to undertake a relationship both with each other, and with Apple Bloom, but things didn’t work out in the beginning. Communication wasn’t enough, mainly because Tender Taps and Pipsqueak believed they had no romantic feelings for each other and they almost competed for the country filly most of the time. They were still the best of buddies, but they couldn’t understand if what they shared was more than friendship. Apple Bloom helped them see it through, never forcing the relationship between them, and finally the young stallions realized their love for each other, flanked by that for the yellow filly.
The three of them are now in a polyamorous relationship and Apple Bloom had a son with Pipsqueak (Elias), however she plans on having more foals with both her stallions. Tender Taps is the sharpest and most lively of the three, he’s also a bit of a show-off and he can be very cocky. Pipsqueak is the quietest, and he’s extremely protective of both his partners - especially Apple Bloom, since he still sees her as a helpless filly (whom he’s more than happy to rescue).
