Yes, that is true. And this is a good thing, in my opinion. It just needs something more.

She’s one of the things that hooked me to MLP. I’m gonna stop here, before I start, because I just read Luna’s book and I feel an angry rant that this beautiful image doesn’t deserve.

This is true. She was Twilight’s mentor, and everything that she learned from her has already happened or off-screen. And now she graduated since what, two seasons ago?

Well, it’s actually a case of convergence. Because I’ve been saying this ever since Luna started having her episodes. Everywhere.
But it’s good to know that some people agree.

To me Celestia’s behavior in that episode was completely justified. Twilight was the one that was at fault for inviting her and then leaving her waiting like that.
It seems everything about Celestia is more headcanon that the fandom has a consensus on than anything that she presents in the show. All they need to do is give Celestia the same treatment they gave to Luna. Give her things to do. I just heard that in Luna’s chapter book she can hear ponies’ dreaming… Celestia just seems to sit in that throne and do “nondescript things” while the story focus on something else, and even when the story is about her, she barely does a thing. It’s always about someone else.
Celestia gets called a mentor, but we never actually see her doing any mentoring. She’s a ruler, but she’s never shown ruling. People see Celestia berating Twilight once in one episode and then forgiving her, and that is it… She’s “understanding”. I’ve seen Luna teaching more morals than Celestia with less screen time. If Celestia died next episode, I have no clue why she would be missed, while Luna I at least know that she has that whole taking care of dreams thing going on. Honestly, I feel like Cadance is another that needs some love, but I at least know that Cadance is a competent spellcaster. Twilight, is Twilight. Nothing more needs to be said. And then there is the whole mess that was Celestia in the story arc this image alludes to.
The problem is her characterization in the show so far (at least up until “No Second Prances”) has been that of a kind, understanding mentor, with a sly sense of humor and dislike for the snobbery of the upper class. Anything done with her that’s consistent with that is going to be dismissed as boring and stale by most bronies. Given they aren’t going to turn her into Princess Molestia in the show, the only way to give her a spotlight and not have bronies shrug it off is to build on the impatient, jerkish side they showed in “No Second Prances”.
I wish my bucket full of sunshine could have an episode too. :(
Still pissed that bgp’s get thier own ep and yet celly’s being pushed into the background.
To me, the problem with Celestia is that she’s not popular enough to warrant actual character development. People don’t think that she’s interesting as a character and even in stories where she’s supposed to star, there is as little as possible of her as they can get away with.
We never see Celestia “doing things”. To me, this is part of the problem: she doesn’t have a defined character and we don’t know how she does things, what is her job, why she’s important. We have the generic “her job is too boring for an actual story” or “she has a hooves off approach to things”, that could just as soon be “she’s not needed at all” (which was actually born out of the fandom justifying her existence when she never does anything). As soon as Celestia gets the same treatment Luna had, this will vanish.
Pretty much my only beef with this.
Cook tried, but I understand why so many writers in the show try to avoid delve into Celestia’s characterization. I know I’m repeating myself with this but seems that Larson, Rogers and Berrow are pretty much the only ones capable to write Celestia without being…cringe-worthy? exaggerated? I don’t how to put it.
I really wish that could happen! Can’t have enough sombra!
I would like to see normal king sombra whit celestia or Luna cuddling in secret in the background.

I doubt it’ll happen. The comic continuity seems to be it’s own thing. The closest we’re likely to get was Cook & Price’s cameo in Princess Spike.
it would be nice for mirror sombra to make an appearance for a MLP episode.
