Headcanon: They went to prom together (Fluttershy’s a year or two older right?). Dash was young and hung out a lot at Fluttershy’s house after school. Zephyr was naturally home as well, she developed a crush on him, but after graduation he turned into a massive douche.

And flutterdash has over 2400 pics. I say that dash and fluttershy has always been a thing and her parents and brother never caught on, or her parents thought because of how rainbow dash was always at their house and zephyr was always SAYING how dash was into him that they were a thing.
 
But it was really dash being over to see fluttershy.. so this really bolsters the flutterdash ship and kind of destroys zephyr ship in the same episode.
