Lol so they didn’t intend for Sparity to be taken seriously yet they’ve continued to throw bait at us all these years??? Yeah screw the staff I’ll ship Sparity all I want!

Those comments, tho… They don’t belong on such pic.
While I’m not trying to say it’s true they did, it is actually very possible. A lot of the show and comic staff have expressed discomfort with and disapproval of the Sparity ship over time, because of the age difference etc. Most infamously Meghan McCarthy and other show writers at a recorded convention panel from 2014 I think (saying Rarity is an adult and Spike is a “little boy” therefore a relationship between them would be inappropriate, when asked by a fan if they’d ever get together.) though there are plenty of other examples. Because of that its really entirely possible that since some people are set on shipping them despite the writers apparently not intending it to be taken seriously, they would instead present a better potential alternative for Spike shipping.
That’s subjective.
For some anything about shipping is trash so…

I prefer Sparity friendshipping myself, save for some excellently written set-ups.
I have a plot bunny about one day Spike greeting Rarara with a fond hug with no crush-y subtext, and she notices. It’s a point of wonder and even some un-settlement for her as she’s so used to that subtext, but after some navel-contemplation she’s cool with how their situation has evolved and their friendship becomes stronger than ever.
Well yes.
Yeah, the show just teaches about friendship and nothing else…
You know, I would believe in that, but just IF this fandom didn’t exist and wasn’t so loud about everything that displeases them or the audience in general.

No. It’s just not canon. The show isn’t about romance, it about friendship.
Spike and Ember are just friends and that’s it.
Doesn’t need to happen in a explicit way to be considered canon
Please keep your opinion to yourself next time, either ships are NOT gonna happen in the show. End of story.

Yes, nothing says subtlety like plastering blue diamonds all over Spike shipbait. Truly the faintest and most delicate of subtext.

Eh… I don’t think Rarity will be the one. I believe Ember was created to subtly get fans away from Sparity.
Even if Spike were to grow into a teen dragon. (Which I hope happens)
There’s still the issue of them being two separate species.
Dragons live for thousands of years, that’s a cold fact.
And I don’t think the writers would want such a dark future for Spike.
So if Spike were to be with someone it would most likely be Ember.
