My nuclear powerplant powering 6 extractors each quadrupling the ore yield from 150 buildcraft quarries disagrees with you.
And so does my ME network, it even automatically crafts sandwiches.

Who needs mods?
I say go creative mod and build wolf monuments,Wolf temples,Wolf castles,Wolf statues,Villages surounding the castles…Populated by wolves….wolf everything.
Nowadays you’d want a Diamond Axe instead, anyways.
Yeah, but the packs don’t have to be HD. Default game is 16x16, and all the most-often-used “good” packs are either still 16x16 like Unity, or 32x32. Anything beyond that goes into HD, in particular anything beyond 128x128 produces the effect of your picture.
That’s why I use Painterly. Its a nice middle-ground, plus you can customize it.
Mine looks something like this right now with the only current issue being related to me not having edited the UI to fit 1.9 yet, meaning my offhand item has no slot indicator and my inventory crafting/offhand slots are slightly misaligned (Since I’ve never edited texture packs myself before so for me its basically guesswork, and its still functional at least.)
