Seriously though, how does this standard of “stand in the back and STFU” make any sense when it comes to adult oriented animation, like Evangelion and Rick and Morty?
Animation was a thing for adults at its beginning.It’s the seventies that infantilized the medium.All those animes could have existed without adult fans.It happened because of adult animators and adult storytellers
… Yeah, should have realized the impact of that list was a bit too reliant on individual tastes. My bad.
Point is, if adult fans just stayed silent, a lot of high quality content aimed at adults wouldn’t exist. What qualifies as “high quality” I’ll leave up to you.

And yet, without adult fans, things like Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Steins;GATE, Kill la Kill, and Madoka wouldn’t exist.
Adults fans have to know their place ,as in ,in the back and silent or else you have stagnation like in Japan where stal harem anime hijack the industry
So kids shows should stop being good because of the icky nerds? Because that is literally the only way to stop adults from watching cartoons.
That quote is less and less relevant and applicable at that time and age because it was said at the time where vocal minorities didnt have Internet to blow their importance and opinions to disproportionate proportion.
Look at Japan and how the anime industry was hijacked by otaku ,a fact that Hayao Miyazaki (whom you can kinda argue he is the Oriental Disney) openly lamented

Grimdark never works well within the official MLP universe.
They really didn’t need to stylize Weird Al to ponify him.
As much as I enjoy Weird Al, I didn’t enjoy Cheese Sandwich at all, because it was just a blatant self-insert of Weird Al. They didn’t even try to stylize him to make him fit in the show, it’s literally just Weird Al but as a pony.
It’s the lack of creativity that annoys me.
Not sure Hipster applies with a fandom as mainstream as ours. :/
