Twilight “studied” as well as had friends though to reach her level, that’s like saying that Glimmer with friends = Glimmericorn :P

inb4 Starlight Glimmer is alicorned the moment she has a real friend. :D

Then totally needs to turn evil, so we can has a evil alicorn planning evil things!

(And a real backstory) come on S6!

@Yukimazan
I’d enjoy meeting Starlight’s teacher.

I mean, if we’re going by mentors. TS/Sunset were taught by Celestia’s tutors.
Trixie…might be self-taught (her spells don’t seem a lot more numerous or advanced than unicorn telekinesis) or she may have a Zecora-like teacher.
Now Starlight…I’m imagining a mix of urban wizards (College of Trottingham?), named wizards and maybe a few “hedge” mages.
Yukimazan

@Goremise
Well Trixie was forgiven in Magic Duel because it was mostly the Alicorn Amulet’s influence despite her revenge motive so no big surprise if forgiveness is easily used as ‘punishment’. Her traits act more or a rival than a villain.

Nah, Starlight said at the end of the second episode she studied for ‘years’ so this assumes that she’s been studying magic like Twilight and Sunset only without Celestia. (The part she tries to zap and Twilight uses a barrier). She only stored the cutie marks away, not absorbed them. She had a hatred to cutie marks because of her past.

I find it weird cutie marks are Starlight’s biggest nemesis for her past.

@Yukimazan

Also hang on, the kinda power we see Twilight wield in S4 finale, with the kinda power we see glimmer have in the S5 finale

a very easy explanation for how stupidly powerful she was, is that she had stolen a large amount of cutie marks, and everyone making her stronger.

maybe there’s like, a whole town of ponies without their marks that she used to gain power :o

@Yukimazan

I do so agree there, I mean, S5 was filled with fan pandering fan service, so you’d expect more of it to happen :P “the characters” that were redeemed or used again existed soley for the fans.

My only question is, why Gilda over Lightning Dust ;-; I would have so loved to see Lighting dust over Gilda :P

DT’s makes perfect sense though, as we find out she been dealing with this inner fight for probably all the past seasons.

S5 finale for me, I mean, I liked the first episode, as it stands alone, it’s a good episode.

I never see people compare the episodes separately though, weirdly. The 2nd episode just needs a few things changed, like a song during her multi time jumps, also, not joke with Flim and Flam like they did, cause they were never villains like that, sheesh. wish a better backstory setup and a better ending that didn’t reform her, so they could do it right.

Cause honestly, the best way to have made this finale work?

IS IF we had a episode featuring Glimmer DURING season 5. That way, we would have gotten more info on her reasons for everything she is doing. We would have watched her hatch her plan, find out a true long backstory, ect. Coulda even put the focus on Twilight, and had her look into her past to find it all out.

On Tirek, it’s interesting just how they rate how bad villains are these days, he takes power, and gets locked away forever, Glimmer’s actions literately destroy the world, and she gets taken on as a student xD
Yukimazan

@Goremise
I’ve seen the poll. Starlight had the villain gimmicks which is why I see her more as a villain than a redeemed one. I don’t mind if she does get redeemed but it’s the way they handle it. Sunset’s redemption was better despite taking 2 or 3 movies because it gives her time to do so. Starlight’s just a few minutes of apology and background story so it wasn’t powerful. Then again, S5 was full of redeemed characters. (Even DT and Gilda’s were better because it shows more relationship with characters )

S5 finale is basically alternate timeline paradox fanservice LOL. It’s very entertaining still even for a season finale. Just wish there’s more explanation on Starlight. Otherwise, her ‘villain’ actions is dominant over her soft side.

Tirek is a primary example of a villain and he is GOOD at being EVIL on the level of Chrysallis (they manipulate first, then they use power). He’s cunning, he’s manipulative till he escalates to intimidating and ruthless. Oh praise our new overlord Tirek!

And he’s handsome when he was young. ;p
Goremise

@Yukimazan
See exactly, the generic response (about about 80% of voters on EQD) all said that they preferred Glimmer AS A VILLIAN.

Having her redeemed with a backstory like that all within a very short instance at the end of the episode felt like it was just shoehorned in cause they ran out of time.

They needed to fill plot holes and explain a lot (like where was that universes Twilight since wouldn’t there have been 2 Twilight’s existing at the same time?) ect.

Some explanation as to why Glimmer is op as she is would have been lovely too.

And I do agree with you there on the S4 finale example, because in S4, things CHANGED and SOMETHING HAPPENED. In essence here, literatly no time was passed in real time, literally nothing new happened besides Glimmer suddenly becoming Twi’s Student, meanwhile, Twilight is a bad friend and is still learning how to be a good one :P

I cried when we lost our tree, and was interested by the crystal castle. and TIREK! A REAL MEANIE! :D
Yukimazan

@Goremise
The S5 finale was really enjoyable, it just seems rather…less impressive to S4 finale. I love the exploration of what-if timelines with villains from previous seasons which is really entertaining. The issue is Starlight Glimmer. After her redemption, she starts to be more like it Moondancer or the CMC were a villain. (She became bad because a friend left her due to cutir marks) That would have been better if they didn’t have Moondancer. Though honestly. Starlight is pretty fascinating as a villain (smart with magic and taunting). Redeemed villain? Not so much even though her background story was there. She’s good as a villain but her motive for revenge seems rather weak. Might as well break the timelines and have every villain at one spot.

Let’s hope Twilight has foils that test her diplomacy skills.

@Yukimazan
I just miss the days where Twilight solved real problems properly that didn’t involve op magics. The kind we started with where you could re-use what you learnt in the show inrl.

Now we have Twilight, Time stopping 2 entire kingdoms worth of ponies, and only then fixing it.

Or this, where twilight was weakened to the level of a unicorn, cause aparntly, having no friends and being bitter your entire life makes you as strong as a alicorn.

I really don’t like what they have been doing with Twilight latetly, with the whole “suddenly her magic is op and always works and can do anything” but that’s a whole nother story :P

as you can tell, I didn’t like the finale at all xD
Yukimazan

@Background Pony #6B5E
Rainbow Rocks had fanservice for Trixie fans. She even gets her own band and song.

Considering how numerous characters in S5 got redeemed or get along (Starlight, Diamond Tiara, Gilda, Moondancer, etc) I’m a bit dissapointed Trixie wasn’t involved going by the trends. Then again, we still have S6 and maybe the official movie in 2017. At least they make up for it in the season finale by having all the villains in one episode with more what-if plots.

I feel like Twilight doesn’t have much room for character development unless it’s more focused on how she ‘negotiates’ with different kinds of characters. I would be DELIGHTED to see some kind of anti-villain that takes advantage of her friendship or rather gives some kind of monologue that friendship isn’t always effective with everyone or every place.
Background Pony #551A
Then again, the whole season 5 finale was pretty weak. Basically just an excuse to throw in as much fanservice as they could get away with, plot holes you could drive a truck through, no major evolution in Twilight or the relationships she has, it all boils down to 3 minutes of conversation that sway Starlight much too easily.

/rant

Also, S6 definitely needs more Trixie, I’m already having withdrawal symptoms.

I just had the greatest idea for a Season 6 episode: Trixie comes back to Ponyville and starts hamming up the arch-nemesis act again, and this time the Mane 6 are having a high old time playing along… except nobody thought to make sure Starlight understood the concept of “all in good fun” beforehand. (Spoiler alert: turns out she doesn’t.)
