Neither of them were used in the promotional materials for Rainbow Rocks. Not sure why they didn’t include Spike, but I think they left Sunset out because they wanted to keep her involvement a surprise at the time.
It says in this picture here that it was taken in Mexico City.

I don’t know, she wasn’t included in much of the advertising of Rainbow Rocks. It’s a shame she got left out, especially when she’s such a central part of the story!
