That’s a great way to put it! Whenever one works on art, there’s a short list of goals to keep in mind to make an interesting piece. (A picture can be one or several of the below):

And all of this stuff is stuff I want to remember doing when I work on my own art. It’s good to make them technically good, yes, but it’s better to think of great content, too!
I also just like clicking on this image just to look at it for awhile! I used to draw a lot of anthro stuff before Pony. I didn’t like where my own artwork was going. Cog is one of those artists that inspires me to work on my humans and anthros! You’ve also come a long way, too, Cog! Keep going!
I’ve noticed in most cases it’s not whether it’s sex that gets attention - though it does help. It’s whether the characters are doing something interesting for the audience/viewers to behold. Many safe pictures are of simply uninteresting situations. There are also many uninteresting explicit pictures that likewise get low scores.
The difference namely is that sex is generally an interesting thing for the characters to be doing. It has a head start advantage in that category. While no matter how beautifully drawn a picture of Fluttershy just sitting on a stool is still just Fluttershy sitting on a stool - despite beauty the concept doesn’t feel like it portrays a point to the audience.
That’s not to say all safe art is boring of course. There’s a lot - about half I’d say - that’s plenty interesting. Often it doesn’t even have to be drawn very well; anything safe that gets a chuckle or a “dawww” is nearly guaranteed to get an up-vote - whereas in my experience sexual pictures tend to require more detail due to an audience more critical of anatomy.
Yet you respnded, which means you were capable of reading something. Perhaps tumblr would suit your needs more, those people excel at walking around blindly and only seeing what they want to see.
Also, I doubt anything about you is remotely “honest”. But that’s my limited impression thus far, not that we’d ever really chat long enough to care about each others opinions on the matter given all these words not being read. Typing is fun. <3

Given the stuff you’re uploading and the stuff you’ve faved, I honestly can’t fathom why you’re complaining when you’re adding to your own problem. xD

Considering the amount of SFW stuff I’ve fave with far more hundreds of upvotes than this? Your argument is invalid.
Also, art is subjective, and skill along doesn’t make up for lack of creative vision far as setting and mood goes. But people like Vinyl and this is a pretty decent one with good boobs, and people love them some boobs.
You shouldn’t go around bashing stuff just because you think there’s a problem with other people liking stuff you don’t. I hardly see any SFW artists complain outside of possibly a few who complain about not having as many patreons as some other artists.
It seems people complain the most when a scoring system is added, because quite honestly I’ve not seen any of the many great SFW artists I followed over the years complain on Deviantart. These likes and favs are arbitrary. One having more than another doesn’t make the other artwork any less good or inferior.
TL:DR: Sex sells. Doesn’t mean everyone buys it.
I disagree. Maybe you didn’t notice that 40% of the top 50 images on the site are rated ‘safe’?
While other artists who draw 124712907414 better, but sfw barely get the half of the upvotes.
