Because that wouldn’t take care of the issue of tag fields being a mess, since the target would be the puns. Remember one thing: to you, to us, we’ve grown used to puns, you know them. But what about new users? Derpi gets new users everyday, people who are new shouldn’t look at the tags and say “wtf am I looking at”; you shouldn’t have to use a manual to understand tags. Look at the pun boob tags objectively and tell me they aren’t obscure as shit for a néophyte. I’m all for fun (despite all apparences) but I won’t compromise site functionality because of “lol random”.
 
I have no issues with pun tags as a whole, like I fucking love the “pinkie loves bacon bits” tag; look at the description. But that’s a pun tag for a joke, and its meaning is explicit enough. That’s fine. What’s not fine is pun tags that affect functionality, as I’ve explained above. As for options, well you have the script DoublePipe made to replace the standardized with the old, if you really want to.

No. Telling people “well you should have read the manual” instead of things being clear on the get go is NEVER a good thing. And as for people who haven’t had the chance to get used to these tags for years not understanding them, saying “then that’s their own fault”, no, just no.

It’s not practical to have to remember every single episode, short and film (which must be about 200+ tags in total) when attempting to tag screencap in images that need them and don’t have.

Maybe, and I do see your and other’s point about these tags being a part of Derpi, I really do. But, again, we gotta remember that tags are first and foremost utilitarian, they are made for site functionality. If they can be fun, fuck yeah! But if they hurt functionality, like the boob/futa tags did… You know my view on this, sorry Mild.

imo the pun tags doesnt hurt the functionality of the site.
 
its easy to see what the pun tags implies for if one read the implied and aliased list under said tag.
 
but thats just my opinion and i wager once the trial is done and if the tags will keep the standardized tags instead of returning back to the original pun tags we been using for years, users will still express their dislike for the change for a long time which may or may not bring another discussion about the subject.

edit: hmm does the script thing work for consoles or hand held mobile devices like PS Vita’s or Wii U’s? (dont have a PC nor got the funds for it even with the job i got since most goes to bills and medicine for diabetes)

I’d still consider myself pretty new to the fandom joke/pun tags (as well as portmanteau shipping tags omg how do people even keep those things straight?) and honestly the only one I really ever was very puzzled by was “headlight sparkle” - took me a while to figure out it was a reference to her being stacked, and not just an odd designation for her anthropomorphized/humanized. Besides, if one can’t work out what a tag means, it’s literally one click away, provided someone set a tag description.
 
So while I don’t really give two bits one way or another far as which should be used, I do think that aliasing ‘busty [character]’ to ‘[pun tag]’ should be adequate far as the non-initiated are concerned. A more worthwhile “push” to increase usability would be adding descriptions to more tags.

Also, why should I have to use a userscript to change something that didn’t need to be changed in the first place? This is like that damn site look overhaul all over again.

I explained why it needed to be changed, and again, needing a manual at all to understand something as simple as a tag is a flaw in design. But I understand why we’re having issues getting to a common ground: one side looks at the issue from a purely fun/emotional point of view (I understand getting attached to those tags, believe me) and the other from a functional/objective point of view.
 
Both have merits, but in the end, you have to choose what you want: for Derpi to have tags that are easy to use for all, or to have tags that are fun for some.

I’d say that this whole tag change fiasco has confused quite a few relative newcomers; the pun tags which they just memorised have been changed. I’m sure that even some newcomers are emotionally attached to the pun tags, even if it is less so than those of us who’ve been here for years.
 
And honestly, there might not even be a need for a manual, because the pun tags were listed by the “breasts” tag anyways. I doubt it’s that hard for people to explore other tags that they’re using on the same image.

Hmmm, periods of transition are never easy, but you said it yourself: “the pun tags which they just memorised have been changed”. Tags shouldn’t have to be memorized, they should be easy to use from the get go; saying “people will get used to them” doesn’t reflect well on them as far as functionality goes. That really is my only beef with them.
 
On the face of it, I like pun tags, and I’ve seen fun tags I liked be aliased/destroyed; it sucked. But as long as it is done for good reasons, I accept the loss. Can we agree on this at least?

These sorts of changes always make things seem more sterile and that is a deterrent to participation in its own right. It prioritises a marginal increase in utility at the cost of site and fandom culture. Where does it end? The answer is that it doesn’t; nixing the futa tags was the thin end of the wedge.
 
Why not just include the tag’s description in a tooltip if it’s so goddamned confusing for newbies?

They’re memorised just as much as the other tags are memorised. I’d say that it’s harder to remember what is defined as safe/suggestive/questionable/explicit/semi/grimdark, than what it is to memorise a few pun tags, which are a play on names of characters I’d assume that the person uploading would at least know.
 
I still don’t believe that this is being done for good reason. As others have said before, aliasing the other way would’ve been the best move. Not this one.

Which, honestly, is a really shitty way to go about it.  
ESPECIALLY when not every picture is properly tagged with them.
 
For many of the tags, I didn’t know the pun name. So I had to find them manually doing what you did. Which includes the step:  
Hope the dang picture you search for the tag on actually HAS the tag on it.  
And since I don’t know the tag name. I’m checking every single tag on the picture to see if any seems kinda boobpun-ishy. Not finding it. Checking the next picture, hoping that one actually got tagged with it.
