(what kind of ship would you be using anyways?)

I could see Captain Twilight Sparkle and her crew being pirates who hunted more dangerous pirates and code breakers while also searching for supplies for Canterlot. Perhaps being enforces of the Code of the Sea established by the royal sisters, being one of the few cruise sized ships not to be merely for supplies.  

 
So perhaps we should establish whose character will play what role on the ship… that is if we want to start everyone on the same ship. We could have it that everyone starts on Canterlot looking for employment and join a ship as crew members.

We should focus on having only one ship, if Artemis says they have one in mind lets leave it at that. So how should we start, with everyone already a part of the same crew or before they join any ship?

I say lets be reasonable when it comes to technology. Even if aircraft carriers or otehr advanced ships exist in this setting I feel players shouldn’t have access to such, at least not if we are to be reasonable.
