Something I’ve noticed is people will make a topic for one bug or feature request or whatnot. It’s a bit hard to keep track of multiple threads, and if for a few days no one on the admin can pitch in, it might get lost altogether.

So, I’d like to ask people to give a list here of bugs they’d like to see fixed, improvements that could be made, and feature requests (but do try to keep those at a plausible level).

Check this before adding a suggestion.

In order from top priority to low priority:

An option to hide user uploads/comments
A search function for the forums
An optimized mobile site

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

An “uncatalogued” forum for those who don’t know where to put a topic. Once the mods decide where it belongs, they move it there.
A forum for controversial topics, such as ethical debates.

I did suggest that we sticky Muffinator’s Thread. But I guess we could sticky this one or make another thread. Specifically, one that handles the purpose of Tags and/or another that deals with features or a lack thereof.

Edit: Also, It would be nice having a search bar for the forum but I can’t imagine anyone using it. I predict a lot of users wouldn’t bother and still go on in making a new thread.

Not really a bug, but a small request, I feel like some tags should automatically have other tags added to those images, like adding Twidash automatically adds lesbian, or any other common ship name, like Soarindash automatically adds straight and caramac gay and so on.
Though sometimes there is rule 63 images of a ship and the default tag would cause small issues, but easily fixed.
I just feel it would help people from missing those tags. Also any established tag automatically adds shipping, another commonly missed tag.
Not sure how easy this is…

…for that matter, I’d suggest that subscriptions update when edits are made, as those subscribed could otherwise miss an important detail or two if the thread otherwise sees no further activity

Someone might have already said something about this, but if links to specific pages of a thread could be provided in the forums, that’d make things a little smoother.

It would also be nice if we could vote on comments and/or subscribe to/comment on profiles.

Oh, and I would imagine it would be handy if threads could use the tag system.

…I suppose this might be pushing it, but could we see polls in the future?

Change the AND, OR, and NOT search operators to &&, ||, and !! respectively, so a combination of tags can be watched.

Pinkie Pie Forum: where we post all the “fun” threads

Fluttershy Forum: where we post all the sensitive threads

Rainbow Dash Forum: essentially our current “Episode Discussion”

Applejack Forum: essentially our current “General Discussion”

Also, Ponibooru let users set preferences without logging in. Why doesn’t Derpibooru have that?

We already fixed that approximately 3 hours after the CVE and patch was released. That’s why they call them critical bugs!

The forum isn’t a bad idea, neither are the other suggestions in this topic - we’re certainly not opposed to reorganizing a bit and that probably wants its own thread for discussion.

We have a login requirement because keeping track of all those settings (and we have many, many more than Ponibooru, it’s worth noting) is hard - specifically it doesn’t efficiently fit into a cookie, and for larger tag sets (which people do have - some people have hundreds of tags in their watch or filter lists) it would actually overflow the cookie and break things. Hence the login requirement, which isn’t arduous.

Filtering and blocking uploaders who do not abide by the rules of the site or who duplicate content near-constantly is something we have a few approaches to, but nothing can stop someone who ~~has no life~~ has enough time to figure it all out. Blocking open proxies and the like from uploading is one thing we do quite aggressively. However, we’d really rather fix this on an image by image basis using more sophisticated deduplication tools and changing the upload workflow to support this, which we are doing.
