How does one become a content moderator?

I’ve seen a couple of users with their names highlighted. Often admins and moderators. So how do you get that title?

You do good stuff on the site (correcting image tags etc etc) and we’ll notice and ask. Being sane helps, but isn’t a requirement.
 
We see all the changes (warning: huge image showing 100,000 tag changes, each circle being a user or tag and each line being a change made, thickness of line represents number of changes made by that user affecting that tag)

to be a mod you also have to have a mind of steel because you must give up all your filters and have everything on visible.

Yes. You must be able to look at the most horrifying images you can imagine and objectively consider how they should be tagged, as well as track down artist and sources when needed. If there’s content that you can’t stand not having filtered or can’t judge without biases, best not apply.

Do you have to say an Oath before you become a mod?

If there were an oath, it’d be around the lines of “accept to be vilified for everything you do, don’t do, think of doing, or have not thought of doing. And accept that no matter what you do, you will be wrong.”
