Your ability to say you don’t like an image is still there. As long as you’re not posting about it constantly and letting everyone know how you hate something but won’t filter it, you’re fine. I mean, do you go to imageboards for shows you don’t like? Then why are you not filtering content you don’t like?

What is wrong with this? Why is it frowned upon? Why is the answer always “just filter it”? Why is this site never allowing people to simply dislike things?

An up‐vote is hardly any more informative than a down‐vote was. They can and will be misused in much the same ways that down‐votes could. Was the art actually shit but you agree with the message? Was the image horrifically bad but an attempt made in good faith try something new? etc., etc.
 
Vote‐botting may have been worse with down‐votes, but if you think up‐votes were always on point and somehow free of being cast for vapid reasons or out of spite then you’re dead wrong. Especially when it comes to the purely subjective nature of much of the criteria. Additionally, due to their positive nature and people’s greater willingness to cast them, up‐votes based on vapid reasons tend to be overlooked whereas down‐votes as more harshly scrutinised.
 
And yes, Derpibooru is a hugbox when it comes to the images themselves. Practically nobody offers critique on anything and if you think removing the ability to cast a down‐vote is going to somehow result in an increase the amount of substantive critique you’re a damn fool. Critique takes time and verbal acuity to dispense, and with anonymous posting people will still avoid saying things because they know full well that staff can see through it. Even the fuzzy, occasionally useless metric of down‐votes would be preferable to the what will be nearly non‐existent negative feedback.

Why someponies are complaining when the mods already gave a ton of reasons to change the downvote? QwQ

Mate, you’re the guy downvoted all the images of some OC because of some offsite personal squable or other nonsense. People like you are exactly why this is happening. Now you’ll have to actually speak up if you want to let people know how offended you are over someone’s OC (though I expect you’ll stick to anon for that), or just get on with life and filter it.

I like to see everyone’s opinions on things. Taking away the downvote and when derpibooru took away the downvote count a few years ago for the combined score took away this insight on people’s opinions. I find this sad.
