Looks like a “less than” sign to me:
 
< ← less than, e.g. 4 < 5.  
> ← greater than, e.g. 9 > 2.
 
Of course, if it’s a mirror image on her other flank, you’re right. ;)

That cutie mark looks like a “greater than” sign, which represents how she makes everyone equal while she stays the same, being greater than everyone else.

Yeah, that’s kinda the problem, even if she believed her own lies, she’d still be in a position that she’d still need her cutie mark for the foals that would inevitably get their own cutie marks, so in the end she’d be the only one with a cutie mark, and that in it self would destroy the “equality” she stood for

Isn’t that like saying,  
“Everyone would be better off without their Arms and legs, but I need my arms and legs to do so?” It also makes her kind of a Marxist I think again with the “You don’t need it, but I do.” philosophy.
 
If she truly believed being equal meant making everyone give up her cutie mark, would she have given up her’s at the end or keep it and rule over everyone as the only one with power?

Don’t know why everyone says she’s a hypocrite. She’s legitamlty belives (apperantly) that taking away cutiemarks Is for the good of society,she needed her cutie magic to do it.She even explained it in the show. All those examples of communist leaders living like kings while their people starved, it’s not comparable since they didn’t need that luxury to enforce their philosophy. Starlgith did need her cutiemark,her magic to enforce her philosophy. I don’t see her a complete hypocrate and like Evo said it be interesting to see if she would erase her own cutiemark in time.
