It’s confirmed that he’s a Spirit of Chaos. In a sense, he exist because there is Chaos. The only way for him to stop existing is either to eliminate chaos in the world, or for him to because normal.
Was Discord’s in-universe origin ever even brought up? ‘Cause I don’t recall anything in canon that this would contradict.

Immma makin a stretch here, but what if the “honesty” pony(?) was Starswirl?
I mean, it ties into the “Discord is Starswirl” headcanon.
That would be epic, but as soon as I remember the antlers, it just doesn’t work.

It was done.
But, it was all wrong.
His memories were dissolving; six conflicting perspectives crashing them into miasma within his mind. Even as he stood in the ruins of his homeland, he could hear five other voices, so precious to him, but he couldn’t remember even why, as each voice faded away itself.
Loyalty and Honesty’s broken promise that they’d stay together.
Generosity, giving her life in vain.
Kindess, that liar: it was easy for her when being kind meant telling a lie. Well, this time she could have been cruel: it might have saved them all.
And Magic… her voice made his heart ache. He had always admired her spirit, her mind, her skill… and now he was cannibalizing all she was, save for the searing pain erupting on one side of his head.
That left him, and his element. Who cares for names. Names make sense, and nothing here made any sense. Nothing anywhere ever made any sense, and he could prove it. He SHOULD prove it: after all, he was Laughter. And everyone laughed when something didn’t make sense. And it was all one big joke anyways.
So he laughed.

The result of that led to the creation of Discord, a combination of all of the six friends, and also an antithesis to Harmony.
