Well that would be one down side of living in a world of magic, things we consider inconveniant but mundane can take on whole new and potentially harmful dimensions.

In this particular story, the nightmares aren’t your usual dreams, and the only way to deal with them is to travel within your own mind to deal with your personal demons and reconcile. If you fail, you die in your sleep forever. Apparently if anyone else tries to take a look, all they see is a few of your memories in a sort of story book format; only the victim can save themselves. Kind of finicky, but nonetheless poetic.
