Anon-a-miss was awful. The fanfics of it are also usually awful. Because the problem with Anon-a-miss was not the execution; it was the premise. You can rewrite and fix a bad execution, but fixing a flawed premise is much harder. The best AAM fics are those that just try to gloss over the events of that comic and just pick up where they wanted to start. Her Knight in Sunlit Armor as an example.

Anon a Miss is probably one of the most overused stories for fanfics.
There exist some good fanfics, like Last Light (it’s extremely sad), Two of a kind (deviantart by Toshi the panda), among other good fics.

If that’s supposed to be a slam on the comic then, uh, M8.

I’ve read many of those fanfics. They’re so cookie cutter that I’ve made a game out of predicting plot beats as early as the first chapter.

My favorites are the ones that seem to spend less time telling a story and more time making it obvious how they haven’t actually read the fic itself but basing their understanding off of channer’s second-hand “contextualizings” of the story.
