personally I think the whole “switched cutie marks” thing was originally supposed to be at the beginning of the season, and since their time was cut they probably had to change it or else they would have had to compress so much into thirteen episodes that there wouldn’t be any room for entertaining tangents not related to the overarching plot.

It would introduce struggle. If Sombra won, that would give an opportunity for Cadance, SA, and the mane six to form an underground resistance, wich would have given them more opportunities for friendship lessons, and would have made Twi’s coronation appear a little less sudden.
I think it would have been good, but that’s my opinion.
