Beyond what they had already done in the extremely small scope of making Twilight interesting, giving Twilight the “Super Saiyan God” method of extreme power up was basically huge character decay for Twilight in the long run. Since she’s no longer as interested in the wizarding or science aspects of her magic, she’s basically left with her most basic alicorn powers. That combined with the transfer method amping up her magic to the 11th power, in a season finale that wasn’t the end, basically doesn’t give Twilight any room to grow. In terms of strength, her character is sputtering.

Stopping a unicorn’s magic or struggling with a worm monster are the extent of her unaided strength currently, and I can honestly say Twilight was a lot stronger in earlier seasons when she had a lot of gumption to match her early uncertainty.

That’s definitely part of it, but I think another aspect is the confusing long character arc they’ve taken with Twilight, with Amending Fences being one of the big turning points.

Twilight showed telekinesis that was comparable to Frieza, she should be unstopable. I never understood why the writers made her so absurdly powerful, she certainly doesn’t need to be.

I’d say that is a matter of convenience in writing and what favors the story.

Since Celestia, Luna, Twilight and Cadance are supposed to have both the most powerful magic and amazing talent with it, the writers have to find ways to keep them from solving everything with a ‘poof’. Problem is, they sometimes clearly struggle finding ways to do that, wich is why the Alicorns end up seeming incredibly underwhelming almost every time it matters.

It’s partially a problem with the type of show FIM is, since a show about friendship requires problems to be solved trough everyone’s bond and cooperation, not trough a single character’s amazing powers, and it’s not always easy to find that balance when dealing with the power top-tiers.

If you were to ask me in early seasons, I would of said Trixie had more clever applications of magic while Twilight’s were more strong and useful.

Now it seems that Trixie’s are more clever and more useful, while Twi’s magic has become the most mundane and predictable. And the strength of her magic would likely balance out with training.

I can see why, though I think the artist put her on the same line with Luna knowing these 2 were redeemed villains and have a moon motif.

And a great drawing as always.

Putting Trixie is sorta insulting, since she’s not all that talented and magical.

Still a good drawing, though. :)
