I deny your headcanon and substitute my own:  
Blueblood was such a douche because Rarity was a gold digger and acted like a douche to get rid of her because no one wants to get saddled (badpun) with a god damned gold digger.

The problem with “Blueblood wasn’t really being a dick, he was just doing this or that,” is that we don’t ever really see anything suggesting that he’s more than a spoiled rotten fop. That is until a brief cameo in “Sweet & Elite,” but there’s no real context behind it.
 
Believe me, I’d like him to come back, but until then, I can only say he’s a dick, plain and simple.

One could argue that, when Rarity met the stallion she’d been pining over since the beginning of the season, and he turned out to be a gigantic sweaty ballsack of douchebaggery, her heart was broken anyway.
