Description

This is a recent rendition and slight redesign of my Asian themed MLP related Qilin, One of my rulers of Neigh-Beyul, The Empress , Lady Yin. I may as well take this opportunity to elaborate more on her.
As was already stated in the previous image;

Lady Yin is Empress of the qilin of Neigh-Beyul.
Qilin are not “Ponies”. A Qilin is a beast composed of the head of a dragon or tiger, mane of a lion, the hooves of an ox or horse, the tail of a lion or ox, scales of a fish, and it can have either 1 or 2 horns/antlers. It depends on the area of the Orient that the parts of the Qilin are derived from. In Asia, Qilin are considered to be more closely related to Dragons. With how they are constructed, westerners should more correctly classify them as Chimeras, because by definition, a Chimera is “mythical or fictional animal with parts taken from various animals”.

The Emperor Lord Yang and the Empress, Lady Yin are designed to reflect the aspects of the two symbols if Yin and Yang. They are designed with aspects of all 4 of the other Qilin races and are the avatars of the Chi balance in Neigh-Beyul. They are designed with opposing details and color schemes. They bear antlers which strengthens their power and rule, and is a sign of a crown on their heads (The antlers are designed like Chital antlers, a deer native to southern Asia). Both rule as equals. Cutie marks are not applied here, since Qilin are not ponies.

Lady Yin is a pure representation of all that is Yin; Female, Negative, Night, Moon, Passive, Intuitive, Cold, Soft.
She is keeper of all things negative and dark. Some fear her as the bringer of darkness, who can summon nightmares and monsters to punish the wicked. Her personality is kind, yet manipulative. She takes pleasure in her dark enchantments and ability to sway others with her silver tongue.
She normally spends her time out in the valley, enjoying the beautiful land and especially the orchards with their blossoms and sweet fruit, but she does take time to stay in the Temple of Balance to relieve her mate of his guard duty. She is most active at night.

Lady Yin was a simple Dame in the beginning who was praised for her beauty and grace as well as her great memory of the land that she traveled. She traveled with the herds of qilin across the untamed grasslands. When the herds were attacked by their Sin-You enemies, Yin would tempt her pursuers to chase her into the land hazards she remembered. Thorny brush, pitfalls, hidden rocks, she seemed to enjoy playing these tricks on the enemies of the herd. After the fall of the Dominant Sire, the future of the herd was at risk, and Yin started to worry that their kin would fall to the next Sin-You attack. Several Sires came forward, proposing their ideas of what to do with the herd and how to secure their futures. Yang spoke the most daring idea, to travel east into the mountains. This intrigued Yin and after the Sires ended their battle for dominance in a draw, she chose to follow Yang.
The journey east was harsh and difficult. There were moments that Yang started to doubt his mission, and ability, but then Yin would comfort him with her gentle voice and whisper confidence into his ear. With Yin at his side, Yang maintained his strength and resolve and together they led the herd through the mountains.
As they reached the top of a sharp rocky cliff, they soon found themselves overlooking a vast deep hidden green valley, flowing with rivers that poured from cavern fresh springs and untouched splendorous orchards of blooming and fruiting trees. Together with her new mate, Yin led their kin down into this valley and they began to explore this new land. As Yin and her mate approached the great lake at the center of the valley, a great dragon arose from its waters and his kin emerged from the caverns and springs. The Qilin feared they were doomed, but Yang stood his ground and Yin offered words of flattery and respect to the dragon.
The dragon in the lake was impressed by Yang’s courage and fortitude, and Yin’s support and diplomatic tact. He introduced himself as “Great Grandfather”, the first Golden Long to rise from the sea. He bowed to his guests and asked if the Qilin had come to the valley to make war.
Yin spoke of their long journey and trials for survival, and that they only wished to live in peace, harmony, and in balance with nature and its elements. Great Grandfather listened to the story of their exodus, and the elder dragon understood and agreed to let them stay, so long as they promised to uphold the balance of nature and her elements. Yang, his mate Yin, and the rest of his people were blessed by Great Grandfather’s smoke, allowing then to take upon themselves the aspects of all their kin; Earth, Wind, Fire, and Metal. Water alone would remain the domain of the dragons. Yang and Yin were then given the Sunstone and the Moonstone by Great Grandfather. These were the divine dragon orbs in physical form, now entrusted to Yang and Yin. Together, with the support of the dragons, they built the Temple of Balance to house the holy dragon orbs, and built their villages, farms and organized the orchards around it, thus naming their new home Neigh-Beyul, the Heart of the World’s Balance.

This Image is actually a small sample of something I am working on in relation to this image. And its going to be a lot of work since I am designing an MLP FIM themed, Asian background from scratch. I’ve had comments before that my backgrounds (Especially buildings and indoor ones) were lacking, and I also wanted to do better, but never took the time to do it. This time I am…and I am hoping its going to make one hell of an image.

Her pose is actually inspired from this pose from The Last Unicorn: images4.fanpop.com/image/photo

“Qilin are not “Ponies””
Tell that to the site. “Qilin” auto-reverts to “dracony” and “hybrid” in the tags.

Kirin is just the Japanese word, versus Qilin is the Chinese word for the creatures. Its no big deal. Now that I know, I’ll use that tag.
