You’re right it doesn’t have godzillas spirit but look at the bright side at least he earned some respect in Godzilla the series

The fact of the matter is, Roland Emmerich thought Godzilla was just a joke when really, I doubt he even saw the original at all. Aside from King Kong vs Godzilla, Godzilla’s Revenge, Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Gigan, Godzilla vs Megalon and Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1974, a good chunk of the Godzilla movies were dark, edgy, had some humor but not enough to overcome the seriousness of those films and were meant to be a glimpse into a world where humanity has to not only worry about wars, natural disasters and diseases but also live in fear of giant monsters that could attack at any moment, whether willing to cause wanton destruction or territorial scuffles. The 1954 film (both versions, the American reedit with Raymond Burr and the Japanese theatrical release), a good chunk of the earlier Showa films, the entire span of the Heisei series, hell even the Millenium series had some stuff that wasn’t meant for kids like Godzilla 2000 with a kid reeling in pain after she gets caught up in a jet squadron’s sonic boom, Godzilla vs Megaguirus has Godzilla’s fight with Megaguirus which gets pretty graphic at times (Godzilla cuts off one of Megaguirus’s pincers, Megaguirus stabs him with her stinger several times etc.), GMK (Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack) really wasn’t meant for kids, the Kiryu Saga (Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla/Tokyo SOS) had Godzilla having a huge scar on his chest and in the first film of that duology, they showed what it would really look like if giant monsters attacked (refugees, people dead, damaged stock market, you get the idea) and even though Godzilla Final Wars had some really goofy moments (Godzilla duking it out with Rodan, King Caesar and Anguirus soccer ball style comes to mind) had some really serious moments as well like people dying on screen (sometimes pretty graphically too). Hell even Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters, Gangsters and Goliaths and the new Ongoing series by IDW can be considered dark and serious. Godzilla 1998 doesn’t know if it wants to be a satirical comedy or a serious blockbuster.

I don’t know about Stargate, I do like all the series but the movie makes mind numb…  
It’s not bad but I would’t call it good.

i learned english thanks to this movie, i really liked it when i was a kid. and then i watched the japanese godzilla movies

Except for Independence Day, Roland Emmerich has never made a good movie.

godzilla vs the human centipede?

I can’t wait for Godzilla 2014. He’ll be back to fighting other big monsters, I hear. Like a big centipede or something.

@RIG, the series was fantastic, too bad it got cancelled due to the fucking Digimon/Pokemon schedule wars.

I assume it’s because it pales in comparison of the original Godzilla movies.  
I mean, I have to say, this movie was pretty damn fogettable, Godzilla wasn’t really all that impressive, he’s barely the size of a large bulding instead of being larger than a skyscraper.  
Well, aside from that building humping shot, that was hilarious.

making godzilla pregnant was an…interesting choice

 
hey OP, how you could forget about Zilla JR.? Toko itself said he deserves to called Godzilla.

Because it’s not Godzilla. He’s not badass he’s not destructive and look at him, he looks nothing like Godzilla at all. Godzilla was an allegorical character about the horrors of the nuclear bomb. There was a scene where a kid is crying because she had her mom die right in front of her. Also there’s no sense of dread in the film. I’m sorry, but this movie, for me and a lot of other G-fans, just falls flat on its ass.

I just found it wasn’t good, but I don’t hate it

Everybody I’ve seen on the internet fucking hates this movie. Why? I thought it was good; it had problems, sure, but for mindless entertainment it’s fucking amazing.
