Most Background Pony are in only one accepted fanon ship (outside of OCs) because characterization is survival-of-the-fittest with little canon to serve as jumping off points / universal agreement. If a lot of people like a pairing, then it’s only the consensus that holds it together, which tends to encourage the community to double down and reinforce it in new fanon material since there’s no other glue. This can set in stone what might seem an arbitrary decision.  
This shouldn’t surprise you. You can’t flanderize something fanon. You might have your own interpretations that clashes with what’s popular, but that’s not the same thing, is it?
 
Also: Lyra is typically paired with Anon if not with Bon Bon. That’s more than most get.
 
Bon Bon does get the short end of the stick, in that her personality was always juxtaposed to Lyra in the fanon (as a foil in a comedy duo sense), so that did kind of suck for her.  
You could therefore consider this latest episode a gift. She can have secret agent adventures now and you can ship her appropriately to your hearts’ content.

No offense, but I was never to big on the pairing, and it feels more like the fan base is flanderizing them to much with it. You never even really see them with any other characters in fan pairings, and such.

Boy, I say Boy, there’s indulging in too much of a good thing, but that’s like getting tired of Rye Whiskey or something else you develop a taste fer. This isn’t like having one too many damn fool Slurpees in the summer.

I knew some would whine about this. I found it funny frankly. Also, honestly shipping isn’t everything, guys. Their relationship is still up for fan interpretation. I’m kinda burnt out on Lyrabon anyways, personally.

And slipping in that “I cooked them up, and ate them!” bit… That was more unexpected than Bonbon being a secret agent.

I thought it was the best thing in the episode. It was just so out of left field. The stream chat was just one long “WAT” during the entire thing. I laughed my ass off during the entire segment.

Oh. Larson certainly knows it. He knows it well.

This was my number one beef with the new episode. The Bon Bon secret agent ridiculousness.
