Dead Space. You have been overruled. Sorry.
Season 4 (so far) = season 1 > Season 3 = Season 4 > Season 2
And in broader context:
Mass Effect 1 > «insert above mentioned hierarchy here» = Mass Effect 2 > Final Fantasy XIII > Skyroshock > Watch_Doge > Mass Effect 3 > Mass Effect 3’s terrible ending > Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC.
I actually don’t think there are any episodes in season 1 that I would call bad. Can’t say the same for the others. The 3rd was definitely the worst overall in my opinion, even though my least favorite episode is actually in the 2nd. 4th was kind of forgettable. Season 5 has avoided some of the problems that plagued the others, but I really dislike the “cutie map” function that seems to be driving the plot these days. It’s a pretty lazy storytelling device. Still, I’ve always found something to like in each season so far.
I need to re-watch season 1 to see how well it’s aged, but it laid the groundwork for a show that I love, and it will always be a classic. Season 1’s greatest strength was that everything was a part of something greater than itself. Even the bad episodes still at least gave you something, be it some insight into a character or the setting as a whole.
Season 2 took more risks, but had less direction. The ei restriction had been removed, but there really wasn’t any vision to let them make the most of their new freedom. At best, it was better than season 1, and at worst, it was worse. In hindsight, Season 2 was mostly filler while the staff figured out what to do with the show. Still perfectly enjoyable, but while Season 1 was greater than the sum of its parts, Season 2 was less.
Season 3 gets credit, both for at least attempting to have an overarching plot, and for picking up on the plot threads from Season 1 that Season 2 skimmed over. But it was too short, and the episodes were either fantastic, or terrible, with little room in between.
Season 4 finally got the mix right. It had an overarching plot, and it really did pick up where Season 3 left off. It started asking more challenging questions, and I feel like it elevated the show as a whole.
Everyone knew that it would be impossible to top the Season 4 finale right off the bat. I feel like Season 5 has been going for depth and breadth, rather than scale, with darker subtext and more focus on the world. It’s been less about the Mane Six, and more about their interactions with everything around them, which I think is an interesting direction.
So far, Season 5 has yet to have an episode that made me go “Wow was that ever crap.” So far, it’s shaping up to be the best season.
Ditto!
Please tell me this is not some kind of pre-emptive butthurt over the upcoming 100th episode…
But we can’t get too complacent.
So far, yes it has been a pretty good season. But we still have many more episodes to go.
Well it does say thus far.
Don’t forget Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe and the 2 gay couples in Clarence.
Times are a changing.
Yeah Sombra would have been better or even Chrysalis I mean come she ain’t dead bring her back but Sombra would make a cool recurring villain.
It’s pretty awesome, i also liked that Nickelodeon was supportive of the move,
@Pagan
My problem was mostly that Starlight seemed like a weak choice for a Recurring Antagonist when we have never really had a full on villain in that roll before, I still think Sombra would be a better choice, he’s powerful enough to be a match for Twilight but weak enough that Luna and Celestia can handle him that means evil schemes and him staying under the radar, which i feel has good story potential,
I liked the season premiere I liked how it was darker than usual I wasn’t expecting it and that just made me like it even more.
Been loving it!
