Who Was This Guy Again?
@Poptard
A good analysis, and my thanks. As for the points you made:

The differing factions at the start would form the beginning of the plot. I’d think one of the ultimate show of harmony and lightsidedness would be making friends out of your enemies, like Tol Braga did with a Dark Council member in the Knight story line.

I hadn’t really though about Twilight being a Sage/Guardian fusion, so allow me to write out my thought process here. One one hand, it IS an interesting idea, and does make use of her being an Alicorn, something the artist here either overlooked or disagreed with. It does make sense for her extreme magic strength to translate to being stronger with the Force than other Sages. On the other hand, the Sage/Councilor in game is already said to be unusually strong in the Force, || being stronger in the Force at 4 than her Master Yuon Par was at 15|| (I believe that was the quote). Being a Sage/Guardian fusion seems somewhat overpowered, but then, some would say Twilight already was from the start. Ultimately, I’d say the decision is whether or not I want her Alicorn status to be translated into the fic, since I think pre-alicorn Twilight wasn’t particularly strong even among her own kind, seeing she spent most of her time reading or using magic.

You make a good case for Applejack. I think I’ll make her into a quasi-hybrid, where she gets the big gun of a Commando but still has the overall abilities and play style of a Vanguard Tank. Hey, if she’s going to be the toughest badass normal out there, I might as well make a show of it.

Rarity, like I said, was, and still is, a tough choice. The acrobatic, showy style of a Sentinel works well with Rarity, as does the refinement and threads of the Operative. I forget to write it, but at one point, I even considered makeing her a Sniper, in reflection for her eye for detail and preference of staying away from anything that could make her dirty, as well as nod to some good fanart where she takes up archery. And only know do I realize that having her as a Sentinel makes for an even 3/3 split between Force-Users and Non Force-users.

Rainbow Dash is hardly what I’d call a fragile speedster, going by the stunts and crashes she goes through in the show, but you nonetheless raise a good point in that the mobile, hard hitting nature of a Merc suits her better than standing still and taking hits. How about a compromise in that she’s gets the Merc treatment overall but still actively puts herself in between her friends and those that would hurt them when they’re being targeted specifically and AJ isn’t able to intervene for whatever reason? After all, there were times my Merc had to play tank in Flashpoints when the tank dcd, was kicked, or simply wasn’t doing their job. And my Sentinel. And Marauder. That’s why I prefer playing a Tank myself.

Glad you agree with me on Fluttershy, but the alternative you presented is also valid. I’ll have to decide which to go with on a later date.

And as for Pinkie, fun fact: I had also considered her being a Sentinel, but then playing a Child of the Emperor route at some point to go with her alternate self, Pinkimena Diane Pie. But in the end, the Scoundrel just suits her too well.

@Midnight Moon
Interesting ideas. In depth:

Overall, I think the main problem is that picking different factions is that they’d inevitably end up fighting each other, which isn’t quite friendship, and they’d all be lightsiders anyway. That is, unless if the chances for Imperial classes to defect, which aren’t included in the game because reasons, become a permanent choice, which could work pretty well.

Yeah, there’s no real way Twilight can be anything else but a Sage, in either role. However, since the show Twilight is an entire league above other unicorns, such power could be reflected by an almost hybrid between a Guardian and Sage; the incredible force powers of a Sage plus the lightsaber mastery and strength of a Guardian. After all, aren’t alicorns combining the best of all races?

AJ, I’d still have her be trooper, but instead as a Vanguard tank. She’s quite possibly the toughest out of the Mane 6, after all, so she might as well be the toughest badass normal out there. AJ is a very physical fighter who likes to get up close and personal, which Vanguard would complement, and she’d get plenty of chances to throw around high-explosive “apples” while she’s at it.

In keeping with the magic-wielding unicorns being force sensitive, I’d still say that Rarity could be a Sentinel. The fighting style is very acrobatic and showy, and despite the impracticality of two lightsabers, they both make it work. Just like Rarity, after all. On the other hand, the Imperial Agent would work pretty well, considering the killer threads, cloak and dagger refinement, and the psuedo-British accent that would fit Rarity. Just have her decide to go the extra mile at the light side choice at the end of her story.

Rainbow Dash would… probably still be a bounty hunter with jetpacks and rockets, but instead as a Merc. She’s more of a fragile speedster type, after all, and being both mobile and hard hitting would suit her better than staying still and tanking blows. The “help her friends” aspect could easily by solved as her popping a few kolto missiles at her friends. Just like potentially with Rarity, when at the end of her story and she gets an offer to work for the Republic, she’d make it a permanent arrangement.

Fluttershy would work as a sage healer, since they tend to be both squishy (and have both a super speed and invincible barrier to hide from physical damage) but really good and reliable at healing. Alternately, she could be a scoundrel healer, since both the invisibility from her shyness and healing would suit her.

Pinkie as a scoundrel DPS is also perfect, because of the natural habits of surprise, crazy tricks, and high mobility suit her just perfectly.

Who Was This Guy Again?
@Poptard

Yeah, soon after my last post, I started working on the framework for a fic of my own, and I’ve got what I think their classes should be, as well as their roles. Might as well post them here and get feedback:

Twilight Sparkle as a Jedi Sage, can act as a healer or DPS depending on the need, though I’ll likely have her as mostly DPS as the story goes on and the group gets together. Sages/Counselors actively seek out knowledge, after all.

Applejack as a Commando, pure DPS. I originally had her planned as a Guardian Tank, but seeing as she prefer honest work instead of “fancy schmancy magic”, Gunslinger became my next choice. However, since smugglers generally aren’t known for being honest, Trooper came up next, and I decided on Commando because, well, it must take some serious strength to carry around those big guns everywhere.

Fluttershy as another Jedi Sage, but purely as a healer this time around. Keeping her as a Shadow was tempting, seeing as their ability to stealth keeps up with her cowardice and tendency to hide from danger, but ultimately, serving as a healer worked better with her personality.

Rarity was/is a tough one to figure out. My first choice was to have her as yet another Sage, also a pure healer, and then as another DPS—Healer combo, but that was pushing it a bit much for my tastes. Next up was casting her as a Jedi Sentinel, trying to strike a balance between Force Users and Non-Force Users, but I ultimately ended up casting her as an Imperial Operative, and even that is still tentative.

Rainbow Dash as a Powertech Tank was a simple choice. Heavy armor for maximum protection, check. Small pistol for maximum draw and firing speed, check. Tendency to put herself in danger so her friends are safe, check.

Finally, I decided to cast Pinkie Pie as a Scoundrel DPS. She can appear out of seemingly nowhere, has dozens of tricks up her sleeves, and would actively embrace the general humor prevalent throughout the Smuggler story line.

Huh, this place has been my home for a few years now, still enjoying it with on and off bursts. Still, I don’t think these ponies’ class quite match up with what I’d expect.

Actually I had a guy at gamestop (yes I shopped back when I had more money then sense) justify that. “If they didn’t stop Sheperd would’ve become another Kratos or Ezio.” Still, coulda just made it so he/she goes on to live out his/her days in peace with the one he/she loves. And while the trilogy copy I bought was a buggy mess, I was under the impression they had a hand in Battlefield 4. Which I’ve heard was pretty buggy and unstable. Then again I don’t pay much attention for FPS PvP games anymore.

Can’t really explain why the “non-canon” thing burns me up so much. It was the same with fable 3 and the book that came out telling the events that happened afterwards. I do enjoy the game and will probably keep playing it. The game is pretty rough around the edges though and I’m not sure it’ll ever get any polish considering who makes it.

EA has poor reputation, yeah, but SWTOR is still a good game. No reason to quit for that reason, if you’re having fun!

As for the “non-canon” thing, why do you care? It’s a game, after all, so (depending on how you look at it) none of it happened anyway because it’s all fictional, or it definitely happened because that’s how you played it. Anyway, it’s about Disney declaring all of SW EU non-canon, to make room for the scriptwriters of the new movies to take the story anywhere they like without having to deal with all the post-RotJ stuff that had gone before. SWTOR and the rest of KotOR era just became non-canon along the way as a side effect.

Actually I like both. What I’m talking about is the fact the game is made by Bioware and EA. Two game companies not exactly not for either putting out high quality game or being good to their players. The other one is apparently the game has been declared “non-canon” which says to me “you all that cool stuff you did? well it never happened because we said so”. Then again it does mean they could potentially take the game any direction they want without having to worry about conflicting with lore.
