Yeah. it’s a pity about the Everfree. It really has been quite a while since the show has genuinely portrayed it as the feared, ominous magical forest it was in the first few seasons.

Although I wouldn’t say the whole in-show world has gotten that treatment. Seasons five and six did a bit of that – the world of Equestria was portrayed as a bit more, well, mundane there than it used to be, I definitely noticed that – but season seven seemed to me to reverse that trend at least a bit. If nothing else, it was the season that introduced Swamp Fever into the canon.

So the entire changeling species traces its origins to a single bad acorn thrown away by a squirrel that just so happened to land in a toxic pool in a cave filled with bones and magical refuse, and if that single squirrel hadn’t picked that specific nut, or had thrown it away from any other point or with an even slightly different arc, or if it had hit any small bump and rolled down a slightly different path, Chrysalis and the changelings would almost certainly never have existed, huh. For want of a nail indeed.

And what sort of place is Equestria’s world where tiny incidents like this, happening all the time beneath anyone’s notice, can spawn horrors like Chrysalis upon creation?
