Im sorry im posting this on a really old pic, but the girl on the photo comented some weeks ago on a facebook group. basically she said that when she was young she felt really bad with hersefl because she’s a tomboy and she grow up with the idea that girls must be femenine, so she likes that quote from Faust because soemehow make her realize that its ok to be a tomboy

That quote and image are arguably irrelevant to implied environmental context.  
Also for a tag called “pride parade”it sure seems to be lacking In diversity.

tell me about it, this bitch disgusts me completely for that sign. I would r0xx0r her s0xx0rz for carrying that around. I would cut out the Rainbow Dash, burn the text for being abused improperly, and paste it on a better text background or pull out a better less-loaded quote.

Assuming Dash is gay makes you the terrible person this sign was made for. I hate the way I see girls treated, as girls. I thought we had gotten better and were treating them more equally, but we are SO far from that. Every girl I know fits the stereotype, but of course they do, they were raised that way. These parents only buying pink things and princess shit, are comitting child abuse.
 
That rant could go on way too long, so stopping it there. Main point, girls can act any way they want. Being gay does not affect the way you act. There is no implication RD is gay. There is also nothing suggesting she is straight. She is just awesome. Girls can be awesome. This is a message that needs to be spread everywhere.

Fairly straightforward feminist message, and one I agree with. Entirely appropriate for the march, intersectionality being what it is.
 
We’re not the intended audience. If there’s a subtext to the sign, I suspect it’s in jest, and I expect the intended audience are pretty OK with disentangling subtext.
 
edudl2: point noted re political marches. Yes, it’s a political rally; all serious attempts to persuade society to work otherwise are political. Since the this march is not intimidatory, I stand firmly behind it.

RD is tomboyish, meaning she is not the stereotypical girl, hence the quote from Lauren. The girl is holding the sign because she is not stereotypical either. Now how the fuck do you logically get from here to “this means RD is a lesbian”?

In the way of artworks, I mean. Pictures and stories and the like. It’s only when people reference that kind of stuff in real life that I’m against it, if that makes any sense.

This, sort of. All the characters in the show are simultaneously headcanon’d as gay, straight, and bi by different people, and I have no problem with that or what arises from that. I do have a problem with people doing what Background Pony describes (paragraph 3).
 
I also really, really don’t like parades and rallies. I guess I’ve just associated them too closely with politics, because that’s what most of them are. Political.

I kinda get what this other BP is trying to say but I personally find it a bit annoying that Dash is often thought to be lesbian. While there is nothing wrong with being a lesbian the problem for me in this case are stereotypes. I hate stereotypes and as we know Dash is a tomboy and there are many people who seem to think that if a girl a tomboy, she must be a lesbian.
 
Whole Mane6 gets shipped with everyone else yet only Dash’s sexuality is actually being argued. Why? Because she is a tomboy.
 
So using Dash like this to promote equality, unfortunately also promotes stereotypes.
 
Blah blah Applejack is a country girl so she must be stupid and racist and Dash is a tomboy so she must be a lesbian blah blah.

If you think that was a “flame war”, you’ve lead a very sheltered life. Saying “Dash being a lesbian is stupid”, though? Now that’ll put you into flaming war-starting territory, for sure.

And I don’t like this picture because of the whole “Rainbow Dash = Lesbian” thing, I find it stupid.

She’s not officially straight, either. At any rate, there’s no problem if someone’s image of that character is that she is gay or using her to support a point at a rally/march like this. The quote is something Faust has said and Dash isn’t stereotypically girly, supporting the stance that women don’t have to adhere to traditional conservative ideals about femininity. If I were Faust I wouldn’t have any problems with people using the characters I had created as icons to promote equality and awareness, whether or not I considered them gay or not, and I’m sure Faust herself would feel the same way about it.
