Description

The original may not be without its flaws, but overall it’s pretty good. I don’t mind seeing flaws pointed out, but redrawing an artist’s work in the “correct” way is just arrogance. So let’s see what it’s like with the shoe on the other foot.

Note: I’m not the author of the original.

Only thing better on the redraw is that it doesnt have out of position for its perspective shoulders (tho that can be explained by hentai boob gravity.

The original is way better. The redraw look like something i would be able to draw. And i’ m worst than a 4 years old kid.

yeah but at least its quality doesnt drop if you look at it for more than a second like manicpaint

because that’s what is happening most who post don’t really look at the art it just looks “hot” and post something along that line, up votes it and never looks at it again
pockystix

yeah, when you focus too much on proportion, you forget about actual shape, and anatomy.

While there is a general rule to body shapes and proportions, there is room for interpretation.

that being said, the redraw of the original was basically just about as bad, in terms of fudging the rules.

Ok

pretty much Rob Liefeld is a comic book artist, know form being the 90’s. He also made a number of popular character like Deadpool (note they only became popular wend other writers did them) he’s really bad at drawing and mainiapaint more or less looks like his style

I’ll just chime in saying this:
No, art is not simply throwing shit on paper and getting praise for it. In fact, art is throwing shit on paper and then getting people to tell you that the stains you made aren’t quite straight, that consistency is not right, that the odor is so last season.

Art is hard, people will be better than you, and you should learn from everything anyone says that will make your works better.

As for the other drawing, I have been ignoring it while focusing on the corrections simply because it is self evident they have nothing to compare each other to because they don’t have anything similar other than both being applejack and being humanized. It’s like trying to compare Monet and Kandinsky on their later periods, which is just wrong.

To a non-artsy-fartsy-woowoo person such as me, both arguments sound the exact same. Art is overwhelmingly subjective and inherently useless with no actual standards.

Before you ask why I’m posting on a site like this, I like looking at pictures of ponies, that’s all.

@bp talking about Picasso

No, Picasso was classically trained, he choice not to follow it because he flew it was boring and old. There’s a different

The artist of the right probably can’t draw something that doesn’t look Liefeld did it.

Indeed. the whole point is respect.

Its sad that there is this air of elitism that permeates all over the place. Art is a learning journey, and even if some people may be better at it then others, that gives them no right to say that they are above anyone else. I’ve seen better people completely floored and in admiration of artists who, though lacking some of their skills, pull off things they’ve not seen before.

End of the day, its about being a good sport.

The key difference is with master study is you don’t think your redraw is the “correct” way, you remember that the original is the proper one, when you go and say your redraw is the better one it’s not a sign of respect anymore.

Picasso may not have drawn structurally accurate people but it was still helpful to analyze how and why. Take a deep breath, nothing was lost in this process. Nobody went and deleted the original image from anyone’s computer.

This shit needs to be downvoted. While I praise the authenticity and nobility of the uploader, I do not praise this image, or the person who ‘uploaded’ the image with an intent to correct because he/she thinks itself the better artist.

I will go so far as to say the image on the far left is fucking ugly and a disgrace, as comapred to the original image which, though exaggerated, is at least true to the artists’s original intentions: he knows what he likes, and draws as is.

Thus, it gets my downvote. And, I will attach a link to the original tumblr where this travesty of a redraw can be found.

When I was in school, redrawing an artist’s work was called a “master study,” and was considered a sign of respect. Just thought I’d share.
