You’re projecting your own narcissism and pride in your work onto me. I’m not putting these up here for narcissistic purposes. It’s to share, to give back. I have no defensiveness about my drawings. I’m engaging you in discussion and you’re misinterpreting that.

You need to work on picking up tone in the written word.

I don’t think there are people “hounding” me about my drawings. I think you and one or two other people can’t seem to be able to make peace with it. If Doxy is your standard, then I’d have to guess that 99% of this site must drive you crazy. My stuff is a little better than the average (I know, like everyone thinks they’re an above-average driver, right?) so only a few of the best artists must make the cut for you. Thing is, I have no pretensions about being an artist. I’m drawing some pictures. Which is fun for me. I’m sharing them for the people who want to see them, because I’m giving back to this group to the extent that I can. And because it’s easier for me to look at them online than to bring out a bunch of sheets of paper and spread them all over the place when I want to look at them.

I’d suggest you hide or spoil my artist tag if it bothers you so much.

Finally, I need to stick to my rule about not engaging with background ponies. Not because I think you’re a troll, necessarily (if you are, this is some of the lightest-approach trolling I’ve ever seen), but because I can’t tell whether you’re the same person who’s commenting next week or the same one who commented last week. The messenger is part of the message.

All I’m hearing are excuses…it has nothing to do with ‘shading’ Even if there was no shading and this was purely lineart, the angle and proportion you drew would still look off. That’s the problem, you don’t know what you drew is good or not. You just assume it was but others who would see it would see differently.

I’ll be blunt and just tell you what you draw isn’t good. The way you executed your drawing is something I would’ve done when I was in 3rd grade. The only reason a person would upload their own work was to show others and gain admiration. I’ll say that your efforts is there but your execution is lacking A LOT. The fact that you choose to not listen to criticism to improve is why there are people still hounding you about what you draw.

Like, when I mention that the back legs looks short and stubby, you rush to defend yourself, giving me excuses like shadings and trying to convince me that your anatomy proportions were sound. No one draws for fun and yet takes the effort to explain and defend themselves when something wrong was pointed out.

My advice still stands that you should at least consider taking some courses or at least read up tutorials on drawing bodies at least. Maybe in 10 years you could pull off art like Doxy who knows. You just need to listen to criticisms, understand why and what you draw doesnt work and try to improve it. Most importantly learn the basics before tackling complicated stuff.

The funny thing is you think I’m invested enough in this to take courses on it. I’m just enjoying myself. I don’t know if it’s right or not, but it looks good to me. The hind legs are going to the left, not at the same angle. I see where you’re getting that but I don’t know how to make it more clear. I suspect it might have something to do with shading, but I’m not there yet. I’m learning by doing.

And my fingers work fine for measuring, for the level of effort I’m putting into this.

I’m an artist and I can tell you that no one measures with their fingers… unless they were in pre-school…

Most artist who has been practicing for years goes by sight. And the problem with what you’re trying to do is making the back area appear closer to the audience but the way you draw it isn’t right. It just looks like the torso and the back parts are at the same angle hence making the legs you draw look shorter and stubbier.
It just looks like the thighs are shorter connecting to the flank and shank of the leg.

I advice you take some drawing courses on how to draw human anatomy or at least look at anatomy before tackling something you don’t quite grasp.
