The oldest thing I distinctly remember seeing here is from 2002, before even G3 was a gleam in Hasbro’s eye. (Well, it was a gleam, but I’m pretty sure the first actual story had yet to air.)

It always impresses me, the pre-G3 art. Those characters still alive in your heart 20 years after the franchise effectively went dormant, worth drawing (and drawing quite lovingly) to you even if there’s no reason to expect that there’s ever going to be a big audience for it.
 
Imagine MLP being this thing from your childhood that nobody knows of; maybe with a lot of prodding one or two of your oldest friends can be made to say “Oh yeah! I remember that… sorta… I think.” And you’re putting hours of work into drawing it because of how much it matters to you, even after the world has long forgotten it and you know nobody’s going to recognize those characters or feel anything like what you do looking at it.
