Considering the REAL alice in wonderland story is in fact a psychological breakdown of Alice’s mind…I really doubt a figment of Alice’s imagination actually has mercury poison

True. Though really everyone from Wonderland seemed to be insane in one regard or another, so the way I see it is you can either go with the historically accurate explanation or the “It’s Wonderland” explanation (u)
I’m talking about the REAL Alice in Wonderland story. Not whatever they Bowdlerized/mutilated it into.
I think the Mad Hatter is just mad, like how the March Hare is mad even though it probably wasn’t march. Wonderland is just supposed to be weird and they used terms that everyone knew related to madness to illustrate it (besides, Madeline’s Father still runs the shop and if he really had mercury poisoning he probably wouldn’t have lasted this long)
