Ah, Lithuania. One of the last countries in Europe to be assimilated into Christianity.

Germany didn’t even start WW1.  
It started because Austria-Hungary’s Archduke got killed by a Bosniak (Serb?).

Nuh uh.  
If they didn’t start world wars left and right noone would touch their land.  
However since so many germans got killed during WW1-2 they didn’t need nearly as much lebensraum as they had before.

Oh.  
The whole, steal german land after ww2 thing.

So yeah a “rogue” general went up there and took the city because it was too pretty and generally considered too Polish to be not Polish.  
Then the great Comrade Stalin came up and decided the city is too pretty to not be Soviet taking it along with most of eastern Poland.  
(no big deal since Poland got some nice industrialized German lands)
 
This pretty much moved poland out of the savage eastern europe to the glorious and civilized central europe.
