Might be simpler to just go with plain old solar power panels, otherwise the animatronics would lose power just as quick as you do. But yes, magical gemstones could work nicely, and explain why they’re so haywire and sinister. I could so see Pinkie doing that: designing some cool robotic contraption, and accidentally powering it with malevolent magic.

They could possibly use a collection of magic-infused gemstones as their power source. The gemstones could also be the source of limited overnight power (charged by sunlight).

Exactly. With a princess living in town (and potentially ponies coming from all over to see her) making the shop a little more kid-friendly with singing animatronics and mascots might not be a bad move to bring in more business.  
And considering Pinkie Pie’s good with building things (party cannon, that weird “Welcome to Ponyville” contraption, etc.), you could say she made them, though with some… unintentional glitches. Or maybe they’re powered by magical power sources that makes them behave rather strangely (Since the game’s creator has said supernatural forces are involved).

yeah I had considered sugarcube corner would be a good environment, but couldn’t think of much of a reason to have animatronic characters, perhaps the cakes purchased some for parties, and same stuff as the game, they wander around at night so their servos don’t lock up.

This game is f****** terrifying and I’m too much of a coward to play games like these, but god damn would I want to see a pony version of this game…
