I also noticed the music style isn’t too different, like that song, hearts strong as horses sounds like a Disney song, and don’t get me wrong, Disney does make pretty great music, especially the songs in Frozen, even though they break into dancing after like every 5 minutes.
I did see it in the cinema. Just a wee retelling of sleeping beauty that focuses on malificent some more and it does it quite well. It seems Disney are trying to capitalise on the success of frozen with endearing female leads. Wonder why it took so long.
It’s got to the stage I saw a wee girl with mother in tow ignoring the monster high and equestria girl dolls on a shelf with an elsa doll from frozen.
Is “Malificent” any good?
Speaking of which, some old fairy tales, and folk tales wouldn’t be considered “family friendly” nowadays.
The latest malificent film is one such example. I heard once the team responsible for home on the range originally wanted to use a pied piper of hamelin story but the producers or otherwise thought it wouldn’t be family friendly.
Also, has a “cute yet edgy” vibe to it. People often forget Disney can be quite edgy at times to. And I’m not just talking about stuff like “Pirates of the Carabean.” Check out the Disney “Nightmare Fuel” page for some good ol’ family-friendly nightmare fuel. ;)
