What they need to do though? They need to launch a deep-scanning satellite in Mars’ orbit to scan deep underground. If there is life on Mars, it is subterranean.

It’s a really sweet Rover. Huge, powerful, loaded with equipment.

And no namby-pamby solar “dust collectors” for Curiosity. It’s entirely powered off of atomic friendship capacitors.

I’m getting up extra early just so I can catch the landing. As for finding things - sure, probably won’t find evidence life ever existed. Then again maybe it will. And maybe we’ll only learn fascinating things about the geology of another planet and gain a better understanding of our own and how the solar system was formed. It’s all still awesome.

And apart from anything else, NASA is going to fire a vehicle at 10,000km/h into the martian atmosphere, brake it using the world’s largest flown heatshield, open a parachute at Mach 2, and then the lander will launch itself out from the parachute, fire descent rockets and then deploy the rover by crane from the sky.

Even if we find nothing out this is one hell of an engineering achievement.

I’ve very interested, even if this is the first I’ve heard of it. Seriously news, we’re probing another world and you don’t even give it a millisecond of your olympics-filled day?
