Allow me to try to explain. :)
“Pince-nez” are a style of spectacles. The name is French I think, and literally means “Pinch nose”, as the spectacles are held in place only by resting on the bridge of the nose; unlike most specs/glasses, they have no legs/arms to go rest over the ears.
