Last I check, there isn’t some MLP:FIM bible that strictly says that the All mighty Faust demands the shipping of Rarity and Applejack or whatever ship you shipped.

As much as I would love to give reasons as to why I love this ship and why I believe it works; no matter the reason, it will always boils down to preferences. So if you don’t like Appledash; filter it.

No, I don’t think so. Like you said, Faust is of the opinion that there’s no wrong way to be a girl, so liking other girls shouldn’t have any bearing on that; it doesn’t make you any less of a girl, and it hardly means that you’re the same as any other person who falls into that category.
If you’re referring to the interview, I think she was quick to say “no comment” when the interviewer suggested that Rainbow Dash was a lesbian because she didn’t want those words or any being put in her mouth, as that would go against the whole point of that philosophy. She didn’t want people pointing and saying “you have to be straight” or “you have to be a lesbian” to be like any of the characters in the show, because a lot of people associate sexual preference with gender roles, and figured that the quieter and more vague she stayed on the preferences of the characters, the stronger the theme of “there’s no wrong way to be a girl” would stay in the show. I don’t think lesbian art or stories about Rainbow Dash would bother her, it’s just a detail that people are interpreting.
Not that any of this really matters, it’s not like a whole lot of people do stuff here with Lauren Faust in mind.

Yeah, you can really go in circles forever on this topic. I’ve always been a tomboy, and since I’m also gay I guess I get kinda defensive on this one. When people act like tomboys can’t/shouldn’t be lesbian it just irks me. To make matters worse, the type of lesbians I’m attracted to ARE the tomboys (more so than me). But, I guess if you were on the other side of the fence (a naturally masculine straight woman) then you’d probably be annoyed at lesbians like me trying in vain to flirt with you (okay, that’s a joke, it’s only happened to me once so far). But I digress, I like this ship a lot and relate to it on some levels, perhaps in a way that not everyone fully gets. And I don’t fully get why people love some other ships that I don’t. I suppose this is just the nature of shipping, though. Especially in a fandom as opinionated as this one!

I get what you’re saying, but as much as it’s unfair to assume her sexuality based on being a tomboy, it’s also kind of unfair to say that she shouldn’t be gay simply because she’s a tomboy. It may be a stereotype, but some lesbians ARE tomboys! It’s not wrong to be both! So, no one is saying she is gay canonically (as you said, there isn’t any real evidence besides the obvious stereotypical stuff) but if people want to ship her with the other females, they have just as much right to that as any of the other mane six, and people shouldn’t be offended just because she’s a tomboy. And again, I HIGHLY doubt Faust would be “hurt” by this. She expressed that there should be more males in the show because it depicts a more realistic world. You know what else depicts a realistic world? LGBTQ people! She seems like the type of writer that would want to include a gay character if she wasn’t writing primarily for a younger audience. Anyway, this is why I usually don’t comment in these arguments, I always end up typing too much, haha.

I have nothing against this ship(in fact I kinda like it) but she has said that there is more than one way to be a girl. Its kinda unfair for people to assume that all tomboys are lesbians and that all lesbians are tomboys. Of course this is something that Dashie suffers the most despite NO evidence of her sexuality, unless you wanna count the hundreds of screenshots of her looking at her friends in mid blink.

Oh I’m aware there’s plenty of other things that bothers her, hehe. But doesn’t she take this kinda stuff seriously? The very fact that there are more male characters than females in any cartoon bothers her, so I’m pretty sure the common assumption that Rainbow and probably AJ are gay bothers the hell out of her as well.

The only thing I’ve ever heard Faust say on the issue was that Rainbow’s sexuality isn’t confirmed to be gay OR straight. And she only had to bring this up in response to a critique saying Rainbow’s angry/aggressive personality (s01) was making lesbians look bad (even the critique thought Rainbow was supposed to be gay). Honestly, Faust doesn’t strike me as someone who would care if people read any of the mane six as lesbian. She’s more open-minded than that. Also, just because they are both tomboys does not mean it’s bad that people ship them. My gf and I are both tomboys, have a healthy relationship, and we both LOVE this ship. Perhaps it makes certain people squeamish who feel the need to categorize gay relationships into hetero-esque gender roles? I don’t know, I just wish anti-appledashers would stop coming on to these images with their negativity. I want to view images of my favorite ship without all the baggage, sheesh.
(also, this picture is SO good. I can’t stop looking at it!)
