Yes but maybe after combining enough alicorn magic, Twilight could just use very powerfull spells like turning him into stone or removing his magic and transfer it to something else (to an artifact for example). I think that elements of harmony were just powerfull artefacts that just empower its user with additional magic. Celestia could use any spells she could but she choose banishing on the moon and petrification.
So do I. I mean, it is clear that two alicorns combined cannot defeat Discord, but perhaps four can. Although let´s remember that Discord wasn´t defeated by physical damage, but by a really specific ability that is power absorption. In a fair battle hand to hand (and with magic and explosions) we don´t really know how much Discord can take or what he can do.
