Yes, the whole Queen Elizabeth argument works pretty well in this scenario.

You could likely attribute Bluebloods lack of wings to his possible lack of achievement/merit, but really, discussing alicorns and what a pony would have to do to earn an ascension is a pain, considering we don’t know much about them at all.

I get it sorta. The main charcters are female. And the princess is female. But that doesn’t mean it’s a female-dominant culture anymore than Queen Elizabeth in England making her country one just because she’s a female running the government. I think that’s a fair example to help comprehension anyway.

Food for thought though: Prince Blueblood is evidence that there are other genders to royalty. Though I’m not sure if it’s a true blood relation or not. And his lack of alicorness doesn’t really help the ‘food for thought’ but so much.

correction: most clear and concise world building we get

We get little tid bits everywhere, but it’s often not enough to draw a solid conclusion on. Maybe that can be a good thing in it’s own way, because people can create their own theories, but…

Eh, I realize how crazy I look putting this much effort into debating something that likely doesn’t even have an answer, but whatever I suppose.

Although, who the hell knows? This is a high quality children’s cartoon, but it’s still a children’s cartoon, which has ultimately resulted in us knowing jack shit about how Equestria’s culture works, and the few things we do know are often debatable and unclear.

Most world building we get is vague history at best.

I realize the possibility of it having a matriarchal government is pretty good, but I see next to no reason to believe in a matriarchal society.

Either way, I’m not interested in convincing anyone that it’s not possible, I merely want to settle on a conclusion that says it’s not canon but still a possibility. I don’t like people claiming it’s factual, I don’t mind people claiming it’s possible.

@Minus
I don’t particularly want to get into another pointless argument, but I really don’t think it’s fair to jump to that conclusion, at least in a definitive sense. In other words, it’s not canon. It’s a viable headcanon though.

It's bad. In a good way!
In a show like this where females rule everything, it’s more impressive that no male characters have been discriminated against for being male.

By the gods people argue about anything. Sure. Girls haven’t been discriminated in the show. Boys haven’t either. But Femanism.

@Ponyra
Assumptions I don’t mind. If you want to headcanon Equestria as a matriarchy, then I welcome that. I have no reason to oppose peoples fun.

The only people I’m arguing against are the ones who try to cite it as a canon fact. There’s plenty of reason for me to be bothered by that. It’s pretty much claiming your interpretation is factual, so I dislike it.

Keep in mind I’m discussing background ponies/crowds. The abundance of female characters with speaking roles is obvious; the target demographic. Most characters of significance to the viewing experience are female due to that.

@Darkmoon
The ratio of females to males. That’s been discussed a lot.

I won’t say what you should think of it, but personally I brush it off as nothing other than the animators placing mares everywhere just because. Let’s also note all of those clones.

Besides, the ponies appear primarily monogamous, so a close to even gender ratio would be… preferable. And most mammals have a pretty even birth rate as far as I know, so you’d have to cite magic to justify it or something.

But I don’t know. Discussing the gender ratio is unpleasant because there’s no way to definitively disprove it in a satisfactory manner, and the arguments for it don’t exactly feel right either.

@PonyPon
So you have a case to argue for a matriarchal government, and that’s still not certain. There are only 4 alicorns, and it can’t be confirmed that a stallion couldn’t technically ascend. Personally I think it’d be pretty silly if an eligible pony couldn’t ascend because they don’t have the right private parts, but whatever on that matter.

If all of the current alicorns are female, then the government can be considered a matriarchy, at least in technicality.

Now, a matriarchal government and matriarchal society are two different things, and there’s no real evidence for the latter.
