Exactly. For example, knowing another culture is vital for any type of contact with it, be it through diplomacy (so as to not offend them) or war (He who knows both himself an his enemy needs not fear the outcome of a hundred battles).

While the bibliophiliac inside me is getting wet over this, the only thing I don’t care for is the inclusion of the book that housed the Elements of Harmony. Realistically, that shouldn’t be in the set because it has nothing to do with the Daring Do universe. It’d be like throwing a Harry Potter book in a Lord of the Rings set.

Ah, I knew this was going to be a thing ages ago already, but never seen the actual designs before. And damn it looks good. And did they actually not reuse existing vectors for once?

50 euro is a bit too much for me though. Like, I certainly wouldn’t mind if one mysteriously made it to my home, but even then unless the chest thingy is really well made (thus you can use it to put stuff in) it will just take up a lot of space.

I’m hoping on just the books being released at some point in some printed way (be it just the hardcovers, or a paperback ombibus) and I’ll definitely buy that. I don’t care much for limited/collector editions and stuff like that, but for those of you that do: buy this.

I wonder if those books are actual like… books, and have the stories in them.

It’s not inherently racist to study other peoples or cultures for scientific or academic purposes. You can be a racist while doing so, certainly, but without actually reading her paper, I’m not sure I’d be comfortable making that declaration. Further, it seems likely, given that she wrote it during her tenure in the National Archives (and given that the paper’s title is a rhyming pun on “Greek and Roman studies”), that it was focused on historical anthropology, not an analysis of contemporary griffon society (though again, there’s nothing inherently racist in studying contemporary cultures).

It’s possible that I’m being oversensitive, but it seems a bit racist to write “anthropological studies” on a neighboring country of supposed equals, perfectly capable of speaking for themselves. (Possibly more so, what with opposable claws.)

So, looking at the preorder page on Barnes and Noble’s website, can I just say that the “About the Author” section is freaking amazeballs?:

“A.K. Yearling’s adventure novels starring the fearless Daring Do have been recognized as the best-selling series in Equestria history. Yearling holds a degree in Literature from Pranceton University. After college, she briefly worked as a researcher at the National Archives for Equestrian Artifacts and Ponthropology in Canterlot. During that time, she wrote an essay based on her findings on the Griffon territories entitled “What was the Name of that Griffon Again? Or Beak and Roaming Studies Recalled.” It was published last year by the University of Equexeter’s journal, Pegasus. She enjoys quiet time at home alone and long trots on the beach.”
