The whole rgby thing runs a little deeper than that. It’s got something to do with how we interpret colours. Our minds use red vs green and blue vs yellow, as well as black vs white, to rationalise different hues. As such, they are the colours we find most distinctive, especially when they’re next to each other. That’s why they tend to become symbolic of ideas that revolve around four basic states, like the elements. At least, that’s what I’ve inferred from reading on the matter. Anybody better informed on the subject is welcome to jump in and tell me why I’m wrong.

That’d make sense. My initial impression was the RGBY because of those colours’ relationship to the Classical Elements.

I think the green and red are actually cyan and magenta respectively. They’re the colours of each princess’ magic aura.

I noticed something during my most recent watch of the episode: When Twilight charges up her super laser, four streamers of red, green, yellow, and blue energy moves from the base of her horn to the orb of magic on the tip just before it grows huge and fires.
