I wouldn’t say it was because it was his human counterpart. Flash isn’t the most developed character right now and I guess that’s why people hate him… its like a cake that fell to the ground, even if they develop him now, he will still be ‘from the ground’ to some.
Honestly I don’t know what to do with this character, would be good if they did something worthwhile with him but as things stand now, people don’t even want to give him a chance.
There is a number of reasons for his hate, the ‘waifu’ one is the dumbest of them. Personally I think he is a cliche cool-love-interest on par with Disney’s princes. From other haters, I also noticed they would like Twilight to remain single as she was always this ‘strong and dependable girl’. Some are afraid he will make her into ‘damsel in distress’ or worse.
Note that this season, a lot of colts were introduced or upgraded like: Bulk Biceps, Soarin, Silver Shill, Trenderhoof or Cheese.
Yet, there was no hate for them as they weren’t shown to be forcefully shipped by Hasbro. People like shipping the characters but its the same with Sparity. It won’t become canon because it can’t as Sparity fans might be 50 percent but another 50 will be angry about making Sparity official.

The movie wasn’t even canon and yet it still caused drama. So why should people care if Flash Sentry is an existing character? At least he’s a Royal Guard with an actual name to go by. And I still don’t get that 5-7 seconds of screen time of him in “Three’s a Crowd” was an issue despite the fact that he did absolutely NOTHING. The only reason.. The ONLY reason why he’s hated is because his human counterpart was the only romantic interest for Twilight in MLP.. EVER. If The mane 6 can’t get coltfriends without bronies bitching up a storm just because their “waifu” was taken then I don’t know what else to think when it come pointless immature jealousy coming from this fandom.

They aren’t being forcefully shipped or given important roles within the main cast just so Hasbro can sell toys of them. Useless Ken for Barbie, that’s all this character is… and he is shown as ‘flawless’ which is creepy, especially with this recent ‘handsome’ part of the book.
EQG1 would work without Flash making Twilight wet just because she bumped into him. (although the movie is still piece of sh*t with many plotholes)
