I agree, this scene creeped me out, it is in my opinion the darkest MLP scene. But I can only appreciate it fully as an adult, because I know what depression is and I know how bad a mental breakdown is.

And this is exactly why it’s acceptable in a kinds cartoon, I think. The darker tone will fly over the target audience’s heads because they can’t yet imagine how depressing having your career ruined can be.

I wouldn’t mind an AU one, where Sweetie didn’t get helped by Luna, and instead see Sweetie’s li’l “unfounded revenge” scheme come to fruition, but then gradually feel guilt for what she did, as she sees Rarity slowly delve further into total depression/madness.
Yes, it’d be rather dark/sad, (with maybe some funny parts) but would be interesting.

I’m tempted to make that actually. :P Though, I’m not much of a writer.

Look, you don’t need to justify WHY you lie the show, if you like it, you like it, that’s that. No need to be all “But it’s not like a little girls show” or whatever.

That’s the impression I’m getting. I’ve seem ‘scarier’ stuff as a kid and I did’t give a damn.

Its never been a stereotype of a girls show. Just don’t pretend that a slightly dark theme for a short while will scar kids for life.

I think little girls will get a thrill out of a scary scene just as much as a little boy. Though society has for a long time retained the perception that little girls want everything to be cuddly and smiling.

Yep, it’s still possible to call this a kids’ show. Several classic children’s movies have scenes that are as disturbing as this or moreso, yet they’re still considered OK for young children.
