I think Mark the Tapir was just poking fun at "fandumb" in general, not just him. (They even seemed to parody Stephen King's "Misery" a bit too.) I've seen many crazy fans out there with similar opinions to Chris Chan actually.
The MLP episode "Stranger then Fanfiction" also seemed to poke fun at the fandom too. (I laughed my head off at the bodypillow that creeped out Dashie.) Even the way Dashie was bugging Daring Do's book author about how another pony's opinion is wrong, seemed to be.
