The Queen song Vinyl’s talking about is the Flash Gordon theme song.
Upon listening, you can tell why people jokingly consider it Flash Sentry’s favourite song.
I remember when that song first came out (no pun intended), good song for a while in my opinion. Though in all honesty I’m not sure if ‘Wannabe’ was ever popular with gays.
As farther evidence I point to that last panel, boy, Flash sure does look happy! He’s living his dream.
Also, that wold be part of the joke, Shining Armor liking the song, implying he can be just as flamboyant.
But honestly that’s just how I understood the comic, I admit the use of all caps does make it dificult to interpret, as “ that Queen song” would mean something entirely different from “that queen song”.
She was wrong, yes, but given how off-handed it was and with no real commitment behind it, it was merely a small vehicle to make a joking reference to Flash’s unique name right before the main wallop.
She is dismissive, but doesn’t the fact that Flash didn’t sing the Queen song make it look like she’s got egg on her face?
Vinyl seems dismissive, and you might be inclined to feel the same way. Flash also does come off as looking like a dork though whether you think it makes him a lovable dork is up to you. Meanwhile, as for the tag you mentioned, that may be from Vinyl’s indifference combined with the rest of the Guards’ attitude in the final panel.
That doesn’t kill the frog for me, I scratched my head over this for hours, now that I understand it, that’s hilarious! But doesn’t it kinda ruin that “everybody hates Flash Sentry” since it makes Vinyl look stupider than Flash? Isn’t the point supposed to be that Vinyl is cool and Flash isn’t?
Ninja’d.
Well, since you said “please.”
Since Queen has many popular songs that are played to the point of being cliche, Vinyl assumes that Flash has a shallow taste in music and will stick to typical popular music. As for “that” Queen song, she’s assuming Flash picked ““Flash - by Queen,[](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS4_Z84-rRE) because it has his name as the title.
While this Spice Girls song isn’t terrible, it’s merely an “unmanly” song to admit to enjoying, nevertheless owning on vinyl record, which either means Flash is cool because he’s unafraid at looking like a fool in a public setting, or that he’s uncool because he looks like a fool in a public setting. Shining Armor is likely of the same group; he also enjoys this song and isn’t afraid to show it, even if it’s not “cool” to do so.
Dissecting a joke is like vivisecting a frog. Sure, you understand the frog a bit better, but the frog dies in the process.
Bruh
What’s “that” Queen song? What Queen song? “We Will Rock You”? “Another One Bites The Dust?” “We Are The Champions?” “The Show Must Go On?” “BADINERI IN G?!?!” :-p
Why should Flash Sentry care about Queen? Why should Vinyl Scratch know anything about Flash Sentry’s taste in music? Is Flash Sentry some kind of retro guy? Did he constantly annoy Vinyl with a particular Queen song recently? Could it be due to his resemblance to Roger Taylor? Why is Vinyl’s knowledge of Flash Sentry’s music taste implied?
Why did Flash Sentry sing a Spice Girls song instead? Why are the Spice Girls on a record? What does this have to do with hating Flash Sentry? Why is Shining Armor enjoying that song?
There are so many things that don’t make any sense WHATSOEVER in this picture, and yet, everyone seems to understand it.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me what this stinkin’ means?!?!?!
PLEEASE!!!!!!!!
(And no one still knows what that means)
Vinyl didn’t say it IS “that Queen song”. Vinyl says 10 bits say its that Queen song.
In auction language, Vinyl lost 10 bits.
“I want in on this action!”
I third this notion. It completely sells the whole strip.
Did you just Rick Roll us through text? Well played, good sir.
Here. This may make the pain go away.
Full disclosure, I’ve been wanting an excuse to post that.
Oh god, you had to remind me of that movie…
vomits
Agreed.
@Dirty Bit
Yes!
“But Sarge… it’s Spice Girls. We use it for psychological warfare.”
