Even though the writers have since bowed to the fanon somewhat, it does look like Dinky/Carrot/Script were intended to be a family at one point. Dinky and Derpy look alike, but consider the actual families in the series, especially the earliest, created when that trio were: instead of “kid is Mom but smol,” it’s when you get the whole family together in one shot, you can see where the colors come from, though placed/shaded/proportioned differently.
 
Like, with the Twilight clan who’ll someday rule the universe, you can see how dark blue, light blue, white, and purple got handed down. But how much, and where?
 

 
Meanwhile, with the marshmallows, the brown got lost but white, pink, and purple find their way into the next generation with, again, no cloning of a parent:
 

 
Dinky looks like Derpy, and that’s the problem. Whereas Dinky, Carrot Top, and Written Script look like a canon family!
 
So, though it’s neat that they seem to have bowed to, or at least acknowledged, the meme, I have no trouble believing that the original intention was for those two to be her parents.

This is my headcanon as well.

I can’t believe it!

This came about because Golden, Dinky, and Written were shown together a lot in The Last Roundup, and it seemed to be a story being told in the background. I’m not sure I’d go as far as to say this, but it did seem like they were related in some way.

Nono, I completely agree. It’s probably a combination of high voice and chubby build (lots of fans hate Truffle too. Incidentally, I think he should’ve been named Mud Pie, but whatever). Snails is skinny, as is Featherweight (who has even worse buck teeth), and people adore those two.

But why don’t people like Snips, when they like Snails(at least I think so)? They’re both tools.  
Like I said elsewhere, it’s like the fandom is a hivemind at times. It picks and chooses collectively which ships are best.  
Also, yeah, I’m pretty sure Steven is… yeah. But weirder stuff hasn’t stopped fans.

Script needs some decent fanon, then I will worry about shipping him.

Ah, you must keep in mind: Magnet is believed to be playing for the other team, and hardly anybody likes Snips. The other two I give you, yes.

Shipping is weird in this fandom.  
By a lot of it’s logic, There should’ve been much more AppleSpike, FlutterSpike, SnipsBloom, Rarity Magnet, etc.  
But not really. Instead we get Derpy ships. What the hell?

Isn’t Written Script that Rainbow Dash fan? I think he even wore the shirt. You’d think that would make him prime shipping fuel, but shippers are insane, so… I’m not sure where I’m going with this.
