I only think it’s “pandering” if the show were to make references to something that only originated in the fandom. If we see Nyx in an episode, pandering. If we see a 4chan joke about rainbow dash (this is safe image), pandering. If we see something Lyra wanting to be a human or having a fascination with humans, pandering.

The show can make references to itself as much as it likes. We like the references, and the staff themselves very likely put the references there in the first place because they thought they were funny. Jayson Thiessen has said that they make the show for themselves, first. I’m also not sure why some people are bothered at all by a show that makes references to itself.

To me, it’s like getting mad at an imagined problem.

I think some members of fandom give themselves way too much credit for things that don’t exist. My impression is that the staff doesn’t have a whole lot of time to look around online. It’s not a 9-5 job, and I’m pretty sure staff has better things to do than look at more pony stuff online after working on MLP all day. I’m sure they put their hearts and souls into it, but I’ll tell you, the last thing I want to do after I get home from work is do more of my job, or stuff that reminds me of my job.

Would’ve helped your argument if you hadn’t called it a “callback”, which implies an intentional reference to something of past significance (like a meme), as opposed to recycling an old face for laughs.

That said, it’s hard to believe the staff aren’t aware of the meme’s significance when you consider how often it gets posted on MLP-related social network stuff, DeviantART profiles and the like.

I am.

>Dash makes face.
>Fandom turns it into meme.
>Face occurs again
>You claim it’s pandering
>It could very well NOT be pandering, and something the staff decided to throw in because they thought it was funny

Until the staff says otherwise, you and the rest of /mlp/’s doomsaying cult have no proof of pandering.

Apropos of- Oh my fucking God, Cartoons do this kind of shit all the goddamn time.

Just because it happened again doesn’t mean it happened again because of us.

Christ, is there an edit here on Derpibooru about “The boy who cried pandering?”, because we desperately need one if folks like you are going to insist that a cigar is more than a cigar.

@ClownDicks
Yes, because “Callbacks to something the fandom turned into a meme” and “pandering” are TOTALLY the same thing.

The dashface showed up quite a bit before. It was in EqG, the cider episode and a couple more times.
