And that’s because people regularly remove the Milky Way tag from those images without adding his other name. His other name here, Mercury, is just as relevant as Milky Way by that logic regardless. And at least two other different ponies have a telescope cutie mark, one of them “Star Gazer, did you think of checking that tag first?
 
Besides, for names not as disputed (looking at you, Rainbow Dad) or for less popular characters, usually more than one fan name is used in the tags anyway, whether they are both fan-named or one name comes from “official” material, examples including Bon Bon/Sweetie Drops, Shoeshine/Linky, Medley/Sprinkle Medley, Crescent Moon/Crescent Pony, etc.

There are what, three or four images of the Pegasus stallion calling him Milky Way? People should just pick a better fan name for him. Ponies are generally named for their cutie mark, not their coat color. (Snowflake being one exception, but they only really gave him a name after the fact to avoid calling him “Roid Rage.”) “Stargazer” maybe. His cutie mark is a telescope.

There should be a running gag where Milky Way is constantly getting shoved out of the way, no matter what the situation is.

Milky Way is also the white Pegasus stallion. If you want the milkmare you are better off using the less-ambiguous “milkmare of trottingham” tag.

Man, that stallion just gets pushed to the side all the time.
